Well, I don't know for sure, as I've never done this. I would think that we could get some black seatbelts that have the same style of connector and similar belt-return mechanisms from another GM car. Just a shot in the dark, but perhaps a Corvette or even an S-10 would have something we could use.
Anybody got an answer, rather than a guess?

I was thinking black belts from another GM vehicle as well... if all else fails, I would find some grey Fiero Belts, and try black fabric dye. Experiment on a expendable set first, just in case it does not turn out good. Soak the entire belt in the dye, and rinse following the instructions on the package. Since the seat belts are made of Nylon, it may take a more concentrated dye mix...

Just did my seat belts over in black. Two options ( both involve sewing). Option 1: I went to a trailer sales store( camper type) and got a 3 point seat belt setup. The one I got had one LONG belt and the buckle clip was slider kind. I took Fiero belt mechanism apart and put the long belt into the top and bottom sections of the retractor unit- with the buckle part facing the right way (very important) and used the floor mounted part from the new assembly. Option 2: Zip down to your local auto top place and have him replace the gray belts with black. The shop near me says that he does this kind of stuff all the time.

Just a word of caution before you go dipping your seat belt straps in black dye. A good friend came to work one day in a nice white shirt and tie with a black stripe across the front at a 60 degree angle. He drove his custom vette that day, you know, the one with the used to be tan but now is black interior. See it was kinda warm that day and with the top down things got a little warm and he began to perspire. Moral of the story: use good quality dye and wash them out before you install them.

I have about a million yards of black belting that I picked up at a yard sale. The size and style matches the GM belts. I plan on disassembling the mechanisms and sewing in new belts, or having it done by an upholstry shop. If any of you guys want to give this a try, let me know and I'll send ya a few yards. I also have blue, red, and white.

I'll try some.... I know a guy who sews up those straps you use to tie down cars & cargo to trailers, maybe I can get him to start sewing us up some different colored seat belt sets.
I sent my belts off to a hotrod shop that specilaizes in hot rod seat belts. They sent them back saying that the Fiero dual winder system is the ONLY GM system that they won't do. They said that the lower winder will foul every time you wind it back. The webbing has to be a certain style and type, which they said was not available. If you use just any old black webbing you may have problems with the winder. This according to Snakeoyl. Now perhaps they just don't have the proper material and don't want to buy a small lot of it just to do a few Fieros. Surely there is someone out there who can do a black belt. I'm standing by too.

Gee I have the opposite problem. The brown seatbelts that came with the car wouldn't pass Australian design rules so I had to put some local ones in and all I could get was black . Is there a shortage of black aftermarket belts in the US ?
