In the past I had to use a muffler repair kit. If you can see/access the crack, just put the putty around it, then wrap it with the metal tape. It worked perfect for a long time. I think it cost about 3 dollars.

Cargo makes a product called Thermo-Steel that is good for temperatures upto 1500 degrees farenheit. There are also epoxy compounds available that are suitable upto 500 degrees or so; may work for a temporary fix.

Right about JB Weld - it just melts right out. I DID "weld" in an oxygen sensor though, right INTO the exhaust manifold. Used something with the brand of CARGO, it's called ThermoSteel and their website is at www.kalimex.co.uk/thermosteel.html. I have NO idea what this stuff is, but it took JBWeld 4 miles to blow out, this lasted until I sold that Fiero at least a year later.

Hey Spektrum I think your best bet is to get the EGR tube crack Brazed shut. I've done it on several different types of vehicles and it is a reliable and if done properly permanent fix.

Go to the boneyard and get one off of a 2.8 Camaro or Firebird. All you need to do to make it fit is elongate the mounting holes on one end. Mine cost $1.00 and works GREAT!

Will Thermosteel work on an exhaust manifold crack. This crack is easy to get to and would be alot easier to patch it then replace the entire manifold.

Thermosteel if used correctly will provide a good long-term patch. The problem is thermal expansion and contraction of the metal will break down the bond over the long term. But, again, it will last a long time. I did this to a manifold and it lasted almost two years on a daily driven car. However, the best fix is to take your manifolds and cross-over pipe to a machine shop and have all the welds gone over. ALSO have the flanges on the manifolds run over a surface-plainer after being welded.
Luck!

I used some of the muffler putty stuff to cover up the leaks that were still there after I tried brazing mine. By mouth (yeah I know, tastes gross if you get some in you) it seems to hold vacuum. The muffler putty was made by permatex.
Where are you people getting this thermosteel? I might just pick some up in case the muffler putty busts out...

Seems to me mine came from a small non-chain autoparts store. I posted a link to their webpage up above someplace - might have a list of dealers or be able to order online. Also, I bet JCWhitney would have it.

I agree this was a permanent repair for me too.

I tried the JB weld on my exhuast and it stunk and then dried and cracked and fell off. The problem is the fiero exhaust is very hot. It has to get up to 600 degrees just for the oxygen sensor to kick in. you need to get the muffler repair kit with the puddy like Wade87GT said, or go to the junkyard.

Mine was broken into 2 pieces. I used some copper wire and wrapped it around and around, starting well behing the break and going well beyond it. This held the two pieces securely together. Then I used the muffler repair paste and coated the entire wired area with it. Seems to be working fine.
