While bleeding the brakes on my '88GT, a jet of brake fluid would spurt upwards from the reservoir when the brake pedal was pushed down. I installed a master cylinder kit and had the same problem. I took the master cylinder to a brake shop to have it inspected and tested, and the owner told me this was normal. That these master cylindes have a "fast take-up valve" and you have to bleed the brakes with the reservoir cover on. I have bled brake systems on all sorts of cars over the years and have never heard of this. Does this mean that all of our '88 Fieros are shooting jets of brake fluid against the inside of the reservoir cover every time we put on the brakes?? Doesn't seem right. Does anyone have the definitive answer on this? I am trying to correct a spongy brake pedal problem, and it seems to me that such action as described above would tend to cause a spongy pedal. Any wisdom on the subject is appreciated.

It is indeed normal! I gravity bleed all Fieros. Remove the resevoir cap and open all the bleeders. Put something under each bleeder so you don't make a mess. Continue refilling the resevoir until all the air is bled. I usually just stand by it and when it gets down to about half, refill it. Do this several times and you should have no problem.

Yup, I've seen that. Also if you still have air in the lines the entire MC will rock back and fourth on the firewall as you push the brake.

What Phil said.... All stock Fiero have Quick Take up Master Clinders. Some do it a bit more than others.

If you want to do it a little faster than gravity or have stuborn bubble, use a vacuum bleeder kit. Pedal Bleeding sucks and can cause problems in dirty systems. (Yes, I know you just redid your MC...)
