Hey guys, It's been a while since I've posted but I got a quick question,

I've heard that a 2.5L head from a S/T truck will interchange with the stock 2.5L head. I'm replacing my head gasket and while it's off I may replace the head as well. Is this limited to any year engines and do you have to do any modifications to the head?

I've heard that the s/t heads get better flow, what kinda of other benefits are there?

Hey! I just sent out a head I had on a spare engine to get tested for cracks. Bad news... Had a crack and was no good. Better finding out now then after I installed it!?

I planned on doing the head gasket this weekend, but I'm going to be delayed a week.

Looks like a really easy job atleast!

Good luck, let me know how you do

See ya!

Be very careful...GM used a variety of heads from 84to 88 and they are not all interchangeable. Diff heights, bolt patterns, pushrod lengths etc. I learned this lesson the hard way.

the best flowing heads (to my understanding are the 87-88 L4 heads because of bigger passages, and an unshrouded combustion chamber.

BUT

They use a different pushrod, different intake and different exhause manifold and yield a lower compression ratio.

I'd stick with the stock head, and see what you can do with some gasket matching, chamber polishing, 3 angle valve cut and pocket porting. these mods are typically good for about 10% give or take increase in HP/TQ. when you're dealing with a 92 HP motor, it's a difference you can feel. I'm hapy with the work I did on my 87 head.
