i have the door panels off and got the clip for the bar off. i cant get the lock out. i see a metal bracket between the metal brace andd the door skin. does this hold the lock cylinder in? if so how do i get it off. i cant get the lock cylinder out for crap. im starting to get really fustrated, i couldnt even get the window crank off. so the door panel is just kinda danglin.

Well, the window crank has a hidden wire "U" shaped clip that needs to be slid off before you can remove it. They have a special little tool, but I just cut a piece of coat hanger wire off and made a little hook on one end to snag the clip.

The door lock cylinder is held in by a little metal clip (retainer) on the inside of the door that slides off. It will of course fall down into the door, so you'll have to fish it back out.

Yep, I've replace an outer door handle before. It's a common GM item used on various other cars. The "Help" section in the parts stores might even have one. You just need to remove the trim molding and epoxy or 3M double sided tape it onto the new handle.
