Can I jump in a sec... On my 3.8sc ..Is there a better/cheaper product( clutch/pressure plate) than the one WCF sells? Archie would your clutch be fine for it?
Sorry all if I am steping on toes here, but it IS a clutch question.
Just got off the phone with Dave Norton at SPEC. He had initially thought that the clutch might have been a stage II kevlar from my verbal description, but I sent him the pics from Archie and he's sure it's the right one. The difference between this one and Chester's is smoother engagement for better streetability, but he's sure it will hold the 430.

I talked to SPEC a few minutes ago and I can honestly say that I'm impressed... My father and I are opening a local speed shop here within the next week and it looks like we'll be a dealer for SPEC. The Stage3 clutch that Chester is using will also be going into my 355ci '86SE with approximately 350-375hp. If this clutch does what Dave says it will, I'll setup a group purchase if there's enough interest.

My first impressions with Dave were really good as well that's why I'm not overly concerned about it. He can definitely talk the talk, now we'll see if the clutch can walk the walk!

Well, just got off the phone with BSP Transport. Seems they got a nice crate with my name on it. I'm taking delivery of the "Beast" tomorrow between 11:00 and 2:00 pm. I'll post pics of the engine when it arrives! YEEEEHAWWW!
Again, thank you for your inquiry. We are willing to work with all V8 Fiero owners to get the best possible clutch solution. You are welcome to forward this information on to all Fv8 owners, at least until our new website launches in 3-4 weeks. The two pictures on the forum are both stage III's. The black disc ( "+" design) is our newly revised Stage III. The gray disc in the wrapping is our previous stage III. The owner of the "old" unit is welcome to turn it in for a new design. The new design is stronger and lighter. We offer two pad options, carbon and ceramic. The carbon is a little smoother after break-in, but the ceramic has a little more bite. We have Stages IV and V also, which are more aggressive and stronger than the Stage III. The Stage V is an excellent alternative to the pricey QM dual and triple. If you will give me your torque goal, I can tell you which one you need.

The part number on the one we're getting ready to use is a SC883. They offer 2 more that are more aggressive depending on your application. Your best bet would be to call Dave Norton direct at 205-491-8581.

I talked to Dave again today and placed my order. The differece in the Stage 4 is that it's unsprung. The stage 5 is a cindered iron disc, but I forgot to ask what the torque handling capacity of that setup is. I believe it's roughly $100 more retail cost. Since my engine is only in the 375hp range, I elected to stay with the Stage 3 clutch.

Great to hear of a company that's at least enthusiastic! If this clutch has good drivability, I could see Archie taking an intrest (sub 300hp gets the CF, above gets a spec?)
Wonder how the drivability will compare.
Tom, I was thinking of a hybrid metal/organic QM setup the other day (what about two metal discs and one organic? should be similar in size to your shaved pack. Heh, that's not dirty.)
Best! Ben.

That's a very interesting thought!! The clutch surfaces are running on the floater plates, pressure plate, and flywheel, not on each other (so there isn't an incompatiable material issue). If it packages, it would probably improve the streetability of the metallic disks, if the single organic was set against the flywheel.
I don't have time to play with it now, car goes in next weekend for new disk set, new CC90 ceramic coated headers (got some pin holes in the standard CC90's after 9 years of use), plus some other stuff. Still driving it and having fun, but can sense a little slip starting to occur at peak torque in 2nd and 3rd. Got a late start this season due to the no job thing, but since this has been recently corrected it's time to pour some money into the toy now.
While the trans is out this time, I'm going to try to get some measurements on the clutch pak. Later I'll talk with QM to find out their feeling on mixing disks. You just might be on to something!

Hehehehe, I know This is the story:
I order a 383 stroker for X. I specify LONG BLOCK. I send him my harmonic balancer and flywheel to balance the rotating assembly. He tries with a 400 crank and has no luck. Tells me he had to spend an extra 400 on a forged INTERNALLY balanced SCAT crank, 6" rods and Keith Black pistons. Not my fault so no charge. I get motor, look in crate and find a COMPLETE 383 stroker oil pan to carb! So, now to take those parts off and recoup some of my money. The motor came with EVERYTHING including taylor wires and even spark plugs! Anyway, this is what is going on it instead
It's an Edelbrock Performer RPM Pro-Flow MPFI setup with a 1000cfm throttle body. Comes with a programmable ECM with cockpit control unit for fuel curve /spark/ idle adjust on the fly.

Well gotta say that I'm impressed with SPECS service. I hope the clutch is just as good . Dave was kind enough to cross ship me the new clutch disk. He even included a return shipping label prepaid! Here's what the new disk looks like
The disk is made of a different alloy and has a 6 rivet hub instead of the 3 rivet hub. Also they cut out the extra metal to save on weight. The pad material IS THE SAME as the original disk that I got.
I have everything to do the conversion EXCEPT for the tranny mounts. That kinda slipped thru the cracks. The hoist and everything else is here. I'm going to assemble the hoist and engine stand today and at least get the engine off the crate and start removing the extras off of it. Its supposed to be HOT today (as in Heat Advisory) so won't be out there too long.

Well, got the hoist assembled and THATS IT for now. 10:00AM and the heat index is already past 100. This sucks! Anyway, I'll get back to it once it cools down some.
Now for that nice cold shower

Well, the engine hoist is assembled and the motor is on the stand (finally) I'll start stripping off the parts I don't need off the block later today. I'll post some pics tonight. It’s been awesome today so I've been driving around in the t-top instead of working on the car. Oh well, gotta play sometime

That it is, with the Street & Performance Ram-Port Injection setup on top. I'm pretty sure it'll be enough power, even for me.
