Tednelson83’s thread 6x9"s in place of the 4x10's encouraged me to see if there are any speaker adapters already being sold so fabrication (the main topic of that thread) would be unnecessary. I found two adapters but don’t know if they will work in the Fiero. Have any of you used either of the speaker adapters below to install 6X9 speakers in place of the 4X10 dash speakers? Are there other manufacturers besides Scosche and Metra that make speaker adapters?

Scosche
SA41069 (universal 4" x 10" to 6" x 9" speaker adapters)

Metra
82-4000 (Adapts a 6x9 speaker to a 4x10 location)

Whoa, I never knew those things existed. I want one of those, how much?? the 6x9's hit hard for mid bass. My maxima had those and they sounded awesome.

Besides, rockford only makes them in 6x9's. =D

If those are the ones I'm thinking of they were designed mostly for the use in the rear parcel deck for vehicles that came with 4x10's where space was not an issue. In the Fiero dash space is limited so I would make sure they actually will fit the Fiero before purchasing. Or be prepared to either cut up your dash or cut into ducting. If they do work let me know I would love to get rid of those 4x10's.

I've largely decided to go with 4" (not decided coaxial or component yet) to replace the 4X10s in the dash (although I'm giving some thought to the Eclipse SE8402). Still, I did find this adapter on ebay, and thought I would post it in case anyone wants to give it a try.

Those adaptors fit on the top of the 6x9 to change the size of the top to 4x10. They were designed for 80's rear wheel drive Grand Prixs, Monte Carlos, and the like with narrow rear decks. The 4x10 is mounted from underneath in those cars so depth is not an issue. Since ours are surface mounted these adaptors will not work.

I used to have a pair of those Eclipse 4x10 speakers. They were by far the best sounding 4x10's I could find. Not especially better constructed than anyone elses 4x10's (poly cone, mylar tweeter stamped frame) but with a 91 Db sensitivity even a head unit amp sounded pretty good.

Eclipse 4X10 CANNOT be beat. A little pricy but worth it!

I do not think you could fit 6x9's down that low(because of depth of adaptor), without major modifications.
I built a custom plate out of abs plastic for my front speakers. A tweeter is mounted in the grill centered on top of one of the fours. They are Lanzar four inch mid-bass. I did have to modify the ac duct on the drivers side slightly with the dremel tool though. They sound great! Take a look.
