anyone know the absolute widest tire that will fit on the 14" 85 gt, 86/87 se wheels? its the kind that some people call 'hurricane'.

I think those are 14X6 wheels, so the widest tire would be a 235. On my '68 camaro's 14X6 wheels, I went from a 205/75R14 to a 235/60R14. Most of the places I checked with said a 235 was the widest a 14X6 would take (although one shop wanted to put a 245/60R14 on, but they're the same shop that messed up my custom duals).

I had some with 235/60/14. They were mounted at one time or another on an 84, an 86 SE and a Formula. They didn't rub on any of them (maybe a little on the front at full turn on the inside).

The tread was quite a bit wider than the rim so they look "fat". The tire is pretty close to the strut in the back so I'm don't think you could go much wider.

Fit or work right? I wouldn't put anything more than a 225 on the 6" rims but you can get 235's on there and it's unlikely you'll pop a bead but they may wear out the sides or centers. I try to use the right tire for the rim +/- one thread width size.

Fiero straight line stability is very sensitive to tire combo's and you just have to be careful about what you throw on there. After fighting little gremlins in the tire wear and handling, I keep the rim and tire diameter the same. That means 215's on a 6" rim.

Terry

Good points TK. I just answered the question asked, I should have mentioned the 235s on front seemed to make it want to wander more than narrower tires. They make it harder to parallel park too... (where'd that power steering thread go? )

I wouldn't recommend more than 225s in back and 215s or even 205s in front.
