If I may add a suggestion?

An intermittent problem only happens "sometimes", so you can rule out any mechanical devices (either they work or they dont). What i'm thinking here is most likely a wiring snag. Quite possibly one of the wires is rubbing on something and worn through the jacket and creating a short. I remember when i was driving my car and all of a sudden "blamo" EVERYTHING dies. Well i'm rolling down the street (thank goodness for standard steering and brakes) pull into a parking lot, pop the trunk lid. I finally find out that the power distribution block post became loose from the jumper bar and it was arcing and heating up soo much that it almost melted the entire molding of the block. So I had to break off the post and install a long bolt with a nut on both sides of the jumper strip then connect all the wires back on it.

I'm thinking that it's something that we all have in common. The same problem you guys have i every now and again. And EVERYTHING on my engine is completely new. So that only leaves one thing left.

WIRING HARNESS!!!!!!!

that's my .02

WOOOO HOOOOOO FOR ME!!!!! Kinda woo hoo for you guys. Well After replacing just about everything in the damn car, and yep I know I need a new wiring harness but mines been pretty much rebuilt also. while installing a new O2 sensor I decided to reach up and disconnect that lil blue plug for my TCC. Headed up to the 24 hour parts place to buy a vacuum pump to check my lines with and WOAHH nelly!!! She didnt act up one single time!!!! Ran great even for the engine being off time (old brake tourqe and adjust for miss method).
BUT this will only help those of us that have autos. If your having this problem also and have a manual, well then I just dont know. I guess try all the things I did and if it dont make the car run better at least you know the parts have some life left to them now. I can't begin to thank you all for all the help you've provided. Now I just have to decide if I want to slap in a shift kit while i replace the TCC or not!! I'll keep you posted on how it goes and continue to check in and assist you guys if this dont help. C~Ya on the flip side!

Great news DJ! Enjoy it. No such luck here, mines a 5 spd. I just picked up a new module and coil so I can drive with a spare like the old timers here. Can't decide if I want too test the new stuff or just wait until the current ones fail completely.

where would i hook a voltmeter up to figure out if i am getting a constant supply of pwer to the coil? I think its ignition related STILL, but i dont know where to start again. I think that it is all of the cylinders that are getting whacked up so that is why im still thinking it is the coil or something in line with the coil. I still am having the distributor re-built just because it looks bad anyhow. My mechanic friend will have time next week.. I cant wait that long Suggestions?

DJ---

The 'AJAR' light is also connected to the hood (mine wasn't closing right)--and maybe the decklid! Didn't check that, but there is a rocker switch in the latch mech.
