Thanks guys, rock I am using fiero 4 speed, not the caddy transmition. And apparently tim has a good idea so I'll hold off one more day on that chip but I will be letting you know.

Just another note on your problem. Rockcrawl redid my chip on my 4.9 5 speed. I have had no problems with my car other than an oil leak! I would highly recommend that you let Jon (Rockcrawl) rework your Memcal pack (chip). It will make things much much better!!! (By the way it turned 13.9 at the strip on friday night)

tim- i think i would try a resistor value of about 1500 ohm this is pretty close to the 1470 value. i am wondering if the tech had the ohm meter set at the times 100 scale and meant 1500 ohms instead of 15

I have used the GM tool to identify the key number. You simply insert the key and it shows you the number from 1 to 15, this number MAY not actually indicate resistance. Did you measure the keys resistance?

As I said before, you will need more things disabled than just passkey, Rock will do this and then some, I urge you don't come this far without getting a chip from him. You don't need to be driving around in limp mode!!! This would be $'s well spent, I don't mean to be a commercial just I have been where you are now.

I thought putting the key in this machine was measuring the resistance. I told the guy that I need to know the resistance, I need to know the resistance...he said ya ya this will tell you...I understand what everyone is saying about the chip and I do think I will have it done, I just kinda want to get it running so that I can bring it to the exhaust shop and the short trip to work and back. Wow, I think this is my first thread that has made it to page 3. Hopefully my experience will help others.

Hi,

Passkey >> once the post was made about the values, it occured to me that a bit later that the machine was simply reading key #15 to make things easy for the people making a new one. I have some military spec multiturn pots that I will dial in the values and give them a try (hey there are on 15 choices) - at least we will get the correct value and the car running. The rest will have to be worked out after as we go.

Rockcrawl >> I am seriously thinking about this swap, but I would like more info on what it is that you all change in the programming. Passkey is one; I may keep this feature, Lance meantioned that you do the tach and speedo mod also; may not be a concern for me - I have another gauge package in mind. I would like to know the others so I can plan out things of what is needed or not, you can email me if you prefer. Thanks

Tim

...quick update the car is now running and it even moves under it's own power...scan tool will not work however - oh well, PBJ said that it might not.

mike kaas >> thanks for the resistor values, although we got lucky on the first one we tried.

Lance can update you all on pictures and maybe a quick video or two.

Tim

Our snap on scan tool works but the diacom doesnt. Go figure. the diacom is like 4x$ more than the snap on! LOL If you can find one, give it a try. BTW I just got my 4.9 up and running as well! Only took me 9 months!

Hey...you're up already Lance??? Can't wait to go outside and play

Actually, it's just a get together this Sunday - no BBQ (that will be next month), this will just be some time for us to get together, have a brew and have a look at Lances car (due to his work schedule it's about the only time for us to get together). Jesse is also planning on bringing his creation by as well. So it will be an afternoon of show and tell
