Hey people.

A customer of mine is putting an LT1 engine (96 Caprice) into an S-10. He's already got a 305 carbed in the truck now, so the conversion isn't a problem.

The 305 just blew up and he doesn't have the time or money to do the electrical for the EFI, so he wants to throw a carb on the LT1 to get him back on the road.

Does anyone know if there's a (sorta) easy way to put a carb on this thing? I think Edelbrock has an intake to bolt onto the heads, but I'm not sure about the distributor. Can you run an LT1 optispark distributor without the ECM?

Thanks in advance,

Kris

Running with a carb requires a mechanical distributor. I'm not sure, But isn't a 305 the same block as a 350? I would assume any SBC distributor would fit, So why not just move over the distributor from the 305?

If I remember right, You just need to do the intake swap, and pull the propshaft that the oil pump uses to run off the cam and stick the distributor there.

You may want to do a search here. I remember someone posting a link to a site that outlines adapting a traditinoal intake to an LT1. From what I remember there were some minor issues but nothing earth shattering. Just run a search.

Hmm.. Where's MinnGreen when I need him.
Always there to pull out an abstract link.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

I've done a bit of searching and I can't seem to find anything discussing the LT1 carbed swap. Seems that everyone wants to go the other way (obviously)...

Anyway, I'll keep looking.

Thanks again,

Kris
