This was by total accident that I know have a 4.10 and if I had the option it would not be there. I posted a day or so ago about some tranny numbers to try and find out about it, well guess what I found out..

My camed, bored, V6 is now putting the power to the ground via a 4.10 4spd. I am the guy that loved having the 3.32 in my car. So this is one hell of a shock to me. 87mph is 4000rpms now. Jesh it sucks. But damn the car pulls like a mother. I run 225/50/15's on the rear because with my old tranny I had traction problems........ Now it is like I am driving in the rain. This is going to be tricky to get used too.

I need input from anyone else that has a 4.10 coupled to a V6, what kind of gas mileage do you get, how do you like it in the long term. If it was not a full day’s job to swap the tranny I would be looking for a new tranny right now to put into the car. This tranny came from an 85 2M6 so I have no idea how it got into an 85 Car but it is in real good shape, all the bushings in it are solid, the shifts are smooth. I am guessing, that it was a new tranny that was swapped into the car shortly before the car was taken off the road.

I guess I am going to have to take the car back to the track to see what she runs the 1/4 at now. I am probably a few tenths quicker now.

I had a 4.10 in my 87GT and loved it! Definitely not for top end, but what a launch at takeoff. I was getting about the same gas mileage with the 4.10 and the 3.65. Maybe 1 mpg diff. Good luck!

I had the 4.10's for a while with my 3.4 and liked it at first. But after a while, I wanted to cruise at an interstate speed without running 3500 rpms so I swapped to an Isuzu 5 speed. With the 4.10's, the car was a mid 14 second quarter miler and got 20 MPG in town and on the road. With the Isuzu, it was a mid 15 second quarter miler and got 20 MPG in town and 27-32 on the road. Overall, I liked the Isuzu better, but performance suffered.

The short tires you installed 225/50/15s will pick up your RPM also. You might want to go to a taller tire. Your speedo will be off by I think 3 miles at 60. I had the 225/50s on the back of mine also and didn't like clocking up all the miles that I wasn't driving so I put them on the front and put taller tires on the back. Just a thought being you already have 4.10s.

I love my 4.10 but of course it would be wiser to run shorter gears on the highway

I have a 4.10 in my 85gt and I love it. I did however install 225 60 15 rear tires so it isnt as low as it could have been. how ever the circumfrance(spelling) is 17% higher than the original and so the speedometer is 17% off 100 mph=117 mph and 50 mph=58.5 mph so you do have to watch it. I will never be without a 4.10 again!!

Too bad, you are in BC and I am in Newfoundland, I have a 3.32 transmission sitting in the 84 in my driveway. I would be happy to trade it for the 4.10 but can you imagine the shipping costs. Well anyway maybe I will do a swap some day and need this tranny for a Caddy V8.

Go to a much larger rear tire size and it will solve part of your problem, but remember that the speedo will still read 87 at 4000rpm although your actual speed with larger tires (245/60X15 should fit a 7"rim) will be significantly higher, (reads 11.4% slow) at about 97mph.

I don't know where I stand on the whole 4.10 vs Isuzu thing. The 4.10 pulls like crazy up to 60, but the isuzu will pull like crazy after 60 .

Yesterday I raced a 95 Integra on the freeway and pulled away from it very fast. I also raced a mid nineties civic and made that thing look like it was going backwords

Infact I raced a Mach 1 mustang on the freeway and from 60-80 he pulled away pretty fast but once we reached 80 or so I pulled on him like he slammed on his brakes.

I like my Isuzu for the top end speed .

I liked my 4:10. It launched well. Pulled hard. As far as putting it in another car, Hmm... I'll let you see why I have my concerns..

Hmm, unsprung racing clutch disc + 245 sticky tires = broken tranny, or so it seems.

Capt! Here is a web site to see how diff tire sizes affect your Speed.
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Just plug 'n' play. Oh yeah it also has a standard / metric switch for your guys in upstate NY :-)

LOL, I dont know how this thread got brought back up, BUT I guess you missed the thread that was 1 week after this one. We installed the tranny on a Saturday afternoon. 6 Days later the following Friday I blew the tranny. It was something internal that went bad. So I ended up going drastic and moving to a 3.32 4spd. Then on top of it all, I got rid of the 225/50/15's that were really short and installed 245/50/16's that are HUGE. I do miss the power that I got from the low gears, but I really love the fact that I cna cruise at 120mph at a meageryl 3900-4100rpms.
