Will get code 12 three times then you get the error codes, then 12 again to let you know that is all the ECM has stored. Code 69 is not a vaild code

Ok,
I got a 15* coolant sensor circuit open

and a 44* lean O2 sensor value

what to do to correct these problems
to note is that after running for a while and shutting down, when I go to restart, the car is flooded every time--must hold accelerator down and when it starts it blows black smoke and idles high for about two min. Any ideas?

Check the Coolant sensor located behind the T-stat housing. pull the connector and clean it if dirty. IF not you will have to replace the sensor.

Replace O2 sensor only after fixing the first one. If could be reading off cause the car is not running right.

Replace the Coolant sensor, disconnect the battery for at least 1 min and then drive the car and see if code goes away. that should fix the 15, if the 15 goes away the other might as well. if not replace O2.

yep, when the coolant sensor has failed, it could be telling the ECM its -40°F, which would cause it to pump a ton of gas through the injectors when starting.

Hey man,
Thanks a lot! I will be heading down to the auto parts store--will let you know what happens--I am going to just get the coolant sensor now, change it--try again and see what happens.

Does the check engine light have to be on (while driving) to bring up a code?

the light only stays on when the error condition is present - if something is intermittant the light will go off, but the code will stay logged in the ECM until you clear it by disconnecting the battery.

some error codes cause the car to go into limp-home mode, the ECM ignores most of the sensor inputs and runs open-loop - usually runs like Kwrap, but its better that having to hire a towtruck.
