The difference is in the side marker lights and how the moulding attaches.. You'll have to figure out a way to add the ribbed moulding behind the marker light.. Or you can just change your entire car over to rounded moulding..

It can be done, but it would be easier (and probably cheaper) to just find a good ribbed fascia.

Thats it? just the molding? other than that, I can just mount it up? I guess I will hold out for a 85 GT getting parted out, think I saw something like that in the mall. THX

Good luck finding one. I found one on ebay from an 86. I haven't hooked it up yet, but I don't care about the lights.

What kind of difficulty in attaching the molding would there be? Are you saying the screw holes just dont line up?

I would guess its the width of the trench for the molding, but it does seem like a insignificant problem.

I would think the problem would be pretty insignificant... especially if you can just go to a junk yard and get new molding. I wonder why the Fiero store doesn't just sell the molding too.

Maybe I'm thinking of something else.

Actually, the molding attachment style is completely different on the ribbed and smooth molding fascias. The smooth molding is the entire distance from the feder opening to the beginning of the point on the fascia (this includes the light). The ribbed molding is shorter, the distance from the fender edge to the edge of the lighted area is actually molded into the fascia - so the removable trim piece is shorter (only the light and the area up to the point on the fascia). It's generally easy enough to go from a ribbed fascia to a smooth one (swap out the point and cut off the excess ribbing), but there really isn't a way to "add" the ribbing back to another piece... aside from making a custom piece of replacement trim.

I'll see if I can find some pics to illustrate better.

OK, here's the visuals:

This is a photo of KEV's '85GT - so this applies to the following models: '84 Indys, '85GTs, & 86SEs (and it's probably the same for the coupes using ribbed moldings as well)

The red arrows denote the ends of the "trim" and marker light piece, the blue arrow points to the section which is a molded part of the front fascia, and the green arrow indicates the removable "point"

Then for comparison, here is a 86 Fastback GT - so this applies to '86-88GT's (and probably to the later smooth molding coupes)

Here, the yellow arrows indicate the end of the marker light and trim molding assembly - all one piece. Again the green arrow points to the removable "point" as well.

Does this make a little more sense then?

well, that does seem very minor. Just using a smooth molding there would make it almost disappear. only the fussiest would notice that. I'll stick with looking for 85 GT nose, but if another comes my way cheap, that'll be fine too.
