yes, another of my famous photoessays.
all you need is a bit of rope, a chain(or a bit of heavier rope) a comealong and a tree.

back your fiero up towards the tree, being careful to (a) align the spring with the tree, and (b) dont hit the tree!
loop your small rope under the bend in the spring

use the chain or heavy rope to tie your comealong to the tree, high enough so the cable wont tear the trunk weatherstrip

put a little tension on the spring, pull the pin out, pull (or release) the spring until it's just in front of the desired hole, then replace the pin.

ease off on the spring, unhook your comealong, and drive away. dont forget and leave your comealong hanging from the tree!

Heck us farmers from Pa didn't use no stinking come-a-long (that would've been to easy).

I bought a spoiler from Fleabitdog (a former pffer). Well the decklid wouldn't stay up so Dave (skitime) made the comment that he knows away to keep the deck lid up without needing to buy the struts from rodney (mind you this was like 2 or 3 years ago). Well Flea went looking for a rope or chain (can't remember which it was anymore) and we secured it to the spring and we started pulling our guts out to to adjust it (well we did it after alot of gruntung and moaning) . So this is to show that the come-a-long isn't needed if you have some muscle men to help, although I think the come-a-long would have been a handy little devise to aid in the fight!

anyway lurker for the write up (here is a + for you)!

When I was having the rear window replaced on the 84', the installer thought that it would be better to remove the decklid and tie the spring down. All I had was the big cable tie wraps, just before he got ready to set the glass... WHAM! the tie wrap broke. The installer almost jumped over the Fiero. After tying it down the second time he set a record on a rear window install.
This was his first Fiero rear glass, {young guy} he'll probably take lunch on the next Fiero dispatch.
