Hey, I just bought a hypertech street runner chip from the fiero store, and now I am reading some stuff that is actually not really useful. Is that true? Did I just waste $100? Is there really no increase in HP? And if there is an increase how much would this be? I have a 88 formula auto, stock, without cat.

For what you might gain, it isn't worth it. Sorry.

You would probably gain more HP with K & N air filter.

Unfortunately i must agree with whats already been said. I think the max gain on a dyno has shown 2 HP but, on the bright side, it does help the auto trans out some. If you've ever taken a hard corner with the auto you might have noticed it sometimes has a second where it seems confused/delayed as to which gear it should be in. The chip will help it stay in the right gear and also hold the gears longer on hard acceleration but, unfortunately, that's as good as it gets. Sorry.

But it will benefit the car a little won't it? I can't imagine they would sell these chips if they wouldn't do anything!

I was under the impression that the benefit of these chips is found in the highest part of the engines RPM range. Not in normal day to day driving.
