Gross!
Buy a replacement wheel from Pep Boys--a nice bright colored, padded one will run ya $59 and will dress up your car and give you better control and hand comfort.
Just my 2 cents. I have a Grant now but it is way too hard for me so I'm going to go with one of the ARC wheels.

I wouldn't suggest using that "Rubber-goo for tools" on the wheel. I don't think it would be good for very long. It IS good for tools (or making little rubber Fieros-don't ask..lonely nights when wife is at school..LOL)but it may come apart rather quickly. It isn't vulcanized rubber, it is ok though...

That bare plastic steering wheel really makes it look like a 1:1 scale matchbox toy!

Got mine (86GT wheel) clean in something like 20 or 30 minutes with lacqur thinner. Then I masked it off and painted the metal part of the spokes red and the rest of the wheel black, put the horn hub back on and it now looks like a momo. All I have to do now, is split to rubber o-rings and epoxy them into the two gaps on either side. I'll post a pic soon. Yeah amybe it ent quite a sparko or momo, but damn, it looks great and didn't cost me anything!

*bump*

That brown goo is disgusting. I've got it seeping out all over the place, and if it were to be gone, I would be extremely happy.

Banish the goo!

Had to remove the Goo today.
Not interested in removing the steering wheel.
Tried some industrial solvents- ACETONE-soaked paper towels cleaned it up in about half an hour.
Got to tight areas with a shop towel soaked with ACTONE.

IMPORTANT CAUTION-
ACETONE HAS A LOW FLASH POINT.
THE SPARK GENERATED FROM HONKING THE HORN IS ENOUGH TO IGNITE ACETONE VAPORS.
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY- THIS IS NOT AN OPTIONAL STEP.

Also- Put a large towel over my lap to keep acetone + Goo off my clothes.

Tkae the wheel off. It takes like 5 mins max.

I did this to my GT wheel. It same o9ut pretty nice.
I plan on a new steering wheel soon though.

I dont like how hard the wheel is with no cover. It is easy an nice to throw around, but doesnt look that great in plastic.

regular,

and i now have the SE wheel in...

it's in Julia right now. (sorry, i had to think about it for a sec)

the SE wheel still doesn't look anywhere as good as i would like but it's been put on the back burner.
