Just wondering what starter/flexplate combo works with the TH425 and a small block chevy. The way it seems to me is that I have 3 options:

1. Use a tilton starter that mounts to the engine, it has no nose cone and won't interfere with the tranny housing but they are expensive and I already have 2 standard chevy starters.

2. Use a standard chevy starter but that would entail modifing the transmission bell housing and/or the starter nose cone.

3. Use a eldo/toro starter that mounts directly to the tranny bellhousing. From what I can gather the toro/eldo flywheel has 166 teeth and the sbc has 168 teeth so there will most likely be some interference with this option.

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Tony

With the TH325-4L I ended up using an aftermarket Hitachi or Nippondenso style starter. I had notched the bellhousing for the stock Delco starter, but it would get heat soaked and not work when it was hot, and the exhaust was not even close to it. I'm pretty sure I used the smaller of the Chevy flexplates, 153 tooth I think they are, but the 425 may have room for the larger one. I remember buying a flexplate because the one that came on my 350 was too big to fit. It's been several years since I've done it, but that's the way I remember it. That was my first engine swap in a Fiero.
