My rear wheels are 2 1/2 inches from the front of the wheel well and 3 1/2 inches from the back. Is this normal for an 88? If not, what would be the probable causes for this?

I have never measured the actual location of the wheel in the wheel well on any of my 88's. However, the 88's have a link that controls the wheel placement front to rear. If this link is bent, or the car has been severly raised or lowered the wheel placement will change.

My car seems to sit high. I am wondering now if the rear locating link is supposed to be horizontal at normal ride height.

I just measured my 88 cyl coupe that now has a 2.8 in it.
The horizontal distance from the center of the rear wheel to the front wheel well is 14 1/4". I don't have the rear fascia on to measure its distance (on either 88 car).

If you think it is sitting too high:
Distance from the floor to bottom of the wheel well on the rear clip is 27 3/4" on the 88 coupe and my 88 GT (started as a coupe too) with SBC and 1 coil cut is 26".

measured my height at the wheel well openings and they are all 27 1/4 + or - an 1/8. the rear locating link is at a pretty good downward angle and lokks like it would center the wheel much better in the opening when I lower the rear.
