Anyone know of a way to "easily" do this?

I have an opptumity to get some 18's real cheap. The only thing wrong with them is the clear coat has alot of chips and scratches. T he aluminum is fine.

Thanks.

The only thing that I'd beware of is that once the aluminum is bare it is a bear to keep clean and shiny without the clear coat on it. My wheels are bare aluminum, and keeping them looking good is a challenge. It takes a lot of Mother's aluminum polish and elbow grease about once every couple of months to make 'em look pretty.

If I go to the trouble of stripping them, I never reclear them, it will just peel later on again. Just keep them clean. The Ferraro wheels are bare aluminum, about 7 years old and driven all year round, even on salted roads. I dont like them shiny like chrome, so just an occasional rub with steelwool and they look like I like them to.

Isn't it?

I sprayed it all over my yard and no aircraft have ever landed there.

The stuff totally works man.

When I stripped a set of GT wheels I used Permatex Spray-on Gasket remover. They can be bought at any auto parts store. You will need 1 can for each wheel and a small BRASS detail brush. The brass brush is incase there are ant small detail areas that need to be cleaned. (Brass won't hurt/mar the aluminum.)
Spray wheels, wait about 15 minutes, scrub if/where needed, Rinse with a hose. Done!

You could also get em clean to where you like them and take them in and get them clear powder coated.

I am using normal paint stripper and a brass brush. Lifts the black paint right off and doesn't mar the aluminum. I tried bead blasting one of them and the paint just laughed at me. From what I am told having them anodized clear will give them the most durable finish. I am definately going to put clear on them after they are polished because I am lazy and don't want to do it again.

Tanks everyone. I think I will try the paint stripper route.

Once I get them cleaned off, I will leave them bare. I had a set of Prime 3 stars and they weren't clear coated. They had a very high polish on them and for the most part kept it. I sold them to a forum member about 3 yrs ago. If he is still here, I would like to know how they are doing. He bought them for his wifes car.

Well im not certain if the cleaner stains the tires, but you could always mask off the tires to be sure...
