Does anybody have a favorite interior carpet company that they used. What style cut did you use (cutpile, loop, ect) and how did you install.Over the old carpet or lay down insulation.I know I asked this before but it was rather late.Thanx Guys.

I have not installed new carpet but I intend on doing it at some point. I found this place on-line that has Fiero carpets....new. Check out www.car-carpet.com. If you purchase a new carpet from them, let the forum know how it turns out (fit, price, installation).

I bought some corded carpet, took out the seats, and cut and fitted it myself..also on the doors. It is very very easy to do, whether you leave the old carpet in, or start from fresh. The carpet cost me about $15...no glue needed, just a very sharp box knife.

I really do dislike the original carpet.I think the black in my car looks great.

I recommend www.autocarpetdeals.com. You can order molded carpet in a wide variety of colors, and you can get it in pile (like most newer cars) or loop (like original Fiero and old-school carpet).

I ordered mine in charcoal loop, and ordered extra flat carpet for the door panels.

For the door panels, you have to remove the old carpet, which sounds easier than it is. You just pull it off, but it's hard to remove. You'll need to do something with the top edge of the carpet, as there's nowhere to tuck it in. I had my upholstery buddy bind the edge with matching charcoal-colored vinyl. Looks pretty good.

To change the carpet on the doors, I(obviously!!) removed the door cards, and then removed the old carpet using a heatgun sparingly. As I pulled it off, I played the heat on the exposed glue, and it came off as easily as removing an elastoplast , and with less pain(except when the heatgun played on my hand, that is!!)
When it was all off (the great thing is, that with the heatgun, the glue came off with the old carpet, leaving a perfect surface to reglue the new carpet), I cut some pieces of carpet roughly to size, then coated both sufaces with contact adhesive. After lining it all up, I trimmed the edges, leaving enough to fold under the edgesof the doorcard.Once that was done, I bent the carpet under, and using clamps, I clamped it down with pieces of 3/8" wide steel strips, and left it overnight.Next day I removed all the clamps, and the result was absolutely perfect, if I say so myself!!
The most critical factor was making sure there was just the right amount of glue on both surfaces, and clamping the edges in place.
I think somebody else subsequently used this method, with the same success...I will see if I can find the thread they posted. It had some excellent pictures.

I've been thinking of an aftermarket carpet for my car, but dislike the fact that it does not have the thick insulation tha tyou see with teh stock carpet, and do not want to install over my stock carpet. I went to ACC Carpet web-site and noticed that they now offer what they call MASS backing. I emailed them to ask what MASS backing was, and their response is below:

Good Morning. When ordering carpet for a car you do have the choice of poly backing or mass backing. Poly back is a hard plastic back and Mass back is also a hard plastic but it is thicker and acts more as a sound deadener. We charge an extra $80.00 to do mass backing. Please let me know if I may assist you further.
Thanks,
Kristi A.

Has anyone ordered the carpet for the Fiero with the MASS backing? I think that I might give it a try.

I just ordered from:

http://www.auto-interior.com/carpetindex.htm

The price was good... and their color selection was outstanding.

Just some feedback, I got some new carpet didn't have as much insulation, but it's just as quiet as the stock stuff. I did throw some extra insulation on back on the firewall other then that I can't complain.

I cleaned up the floor and sprayed some sound deadner on the floor before installing.

new carpet makes a world of a difference.

I couldn't find a color or size I liked in automotive carpet, so I got some thick house carpet and was able to use a 6'x12' (if I remember correctly) piece cut in half.

It wasn't hard, although house carpet is harder to work into tight spaces. It didn't take me long to get everything in place.

Check out pics (if my computer is on) using the homepage in my profile.

I ordered mine from a local automotive carpet/ upolstery supplier. I got original Ferrari molded carpet and modified it slightly to fit. For padding I just laid it over the OEM Fiero. I think it was $150.00 with some extra to do my lower door panels.

I just got mine from the fiero store. havnt installed it yet but they sent it straight from the factory. It was from Auto Custom Carpets Inc. My guess is that if you go straight to them it may be cheaper. I got it for around $160 from the fiero store.

I did the same thing except I used a spray-on adhesive from 3M. It worked great too.

Usually buying directly from ACC costs more for they really don't want to be retailers. These folks usually have good prices on ACC carpets http://www.1aauto.com/
