Hey guys

I just re painted my floor pans, looks pretty good, except the 3 holes where the drain plugs used to be!

Obviously they have been rusted for some time now, and the rubber sheets on them have become one with the floor pan.

Does anyone know where I could order these plugs? Possibly order the rubber covers as well?

If anyone has tackled this project before I would be very interested in some feedback on how they solved the situation.

Thanks very much guys!

Matt

When I did mine I just put the stock plug back, then I used rubberized undercoating, and it helped alot. It got rid of alot of the sound, but once you do it you can never remove the plugs again. But it adds a nice touch to the floor.

I just did mine as well. I used tin snips and cut new ones out of galvanized sheet metal from an air duct. I put black silicone around the holes, put the plugs in and then, gave it a coat of roofing tar before I laod the carpet down. No leaks, and no rust :}

I was actually going to post a question about these myself,,,, are they necessary??? the rest of the underneath of my car is perfect,,, except for the "rust plugs" as I call them,,, I was just going to cut out new sheet metal and tack them on from underneath and seal them with seam sealer,,, anyone see anything wrong with this? What is their true purpose?
Thanks,
Hooter

I cut mine as well from galvanized sheet. They are still available from GM, I think. When the frame was made it was dipped in an anti-rust bath and the holes were to allow the fluid to run out quickly. They don't show and you can seal the holes pretty much however you like.

I'm sorry Matt, I cut mine as well from galvanized sheet. I used the old "rusty ones" and the "picture" as a guide for making mine.
Then I used a sealer when they were installed......

Hey, I'm a Fiero owner. I justify being cheap as an 'engineering challenge!' I cut mine out of galvanized flashing I had, painted them with rustoleum, stuck 'em down with some old silicone gasket goo, then some undercoat...

I havn't installed my new plates yet . I am preping them so they wont rot out again. I am heating up the metal plate so I can seperate it from the rubber backing. I am then cleaning them up and spray painting them silver with clear coat. It seems to me that the replacment plugs I got from GM are made of a metal that looks like it will rust in a minute. After there all apinted I am glueing them back to the rubber gaskets with Liquid nails.
