On my 86 Fiero, the headlight switch acts funny. If i push the park light part down, the park lights come on like normal, but if I push the headlight part down, the headlights light up, but dont come up. The will come up if I hold the switch about 1/2 way between on and off nd hold it there until they are all the way up, if I push it down all the way when the light are not up all the way, they will stop in the position they are at (like 1/2 way up or wherever)? I thought that it may have a non Fiero light switch, and that with the pop up lights, it would have an extra terminal, but a switch out of another Fiero does not fix it.
Both headlight motors work perfectly, well, my dad noticed that the drivers side goes up all the way, then goes back down about 1/4" before stopping, dont know why.

I guess maybe something could be wrong with the switch. If the motors running thats good. Ermm how about the actuator? Mine used to fight to get up and fall backl down and all that. Go to your car and you have a little knob you can turn that will bring them to the pop up position manually. If they do not go up or have trouble doing that its prolly your actuator. You can get a repair kit if it is from Rodney Dickman for like 10 bucks.

The headlight switch is designed so you can open the headlamp doors without turning on the headlights. The owner's manual says the doors should be open when driving in ice or snow and when washing the car.
To do this, turn on the parking lights and then lightly press the headlight switch. The headlights will turn on while doing this but will go off when the switch is released. The doors will stop in any position if the button is released before the door is fully open.
Your switch is operating normally.

I have an update. I replaced my headlight bulbs last week, and I noticed that the manual turn knobs dont raise or lower the lights. They arent stuck, but they look like they are unscrewing themselves and the knobs go up when turned like a screw, and they get stiffer right away, sorta like a spring pulling them back, then when I let go of the knob, the knob spins back to where it was before. Seems to act like the motors are stuck, but they do go up and down normally. The motors are quieter (and sound faster) than my 84 fiero, they dont sound laboured, even less laboured than my 84's motors.
What could the problem be?

that's normal for the motors. you are releaseing the limit switch when you start to unscrew them when you let go of the knob it screws itself back in to the limit switch again

Interestingly enough, I have the same issue with my headlights. They will only go up when the button is pushed half way. If the switch was pushed all the way down immediately, the lights will not go up.

i've never counted but i bet they turn close to 150 times before they are up.
Something like that, yes.
befarrer if you want to raise the lights manually and have them stay up regardless of the headlight switch position, find the single blue wire with a weather pak connector near the relay on each motor, and disconnect it (before spinning the motor manually). This essentially kills the "down" function of the motors.
