Does anyone know if you can fit HP Racing EVO 18x8 and 18x9 wheels on an 88 GT? I plan to use 215/40/18 and 245/40/18 tires.
I have not been able to find the wheel offset for these wheels. You can see pics at Wood and Wheels.net. I really like the style of these wheels. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the link. I am replacing my 17X7.5 inch wheels and I really like the look of these. I just would like to know the front and rear offset of the wheels to make sure they clear. I found a wheel offset caculator and want to compare the offset to the factory wheel to get an idea of how far they would stick out.

I also found these wheels at wheels next.com in a dark silver staggered 8 and 9 inch combo. Anyone else have info on these wheels?

So, does anyone have these on their car yet? I'm interested in finding out if the 265/35-18 will fit in the rear without coilovers.

Not withstanding the specifc rim, I have:

17x8's on the front
18x9's on the rear

to which are currently installed on my 88GT. Not sure if they are going to fit w/o going w/ coilovers, as I have those installed as well on the rear.

Hope that helps.

Offset on the HPs is 35mm for both. Like Mcaanda said maybe the rears may not fit. Also I think the HPs come in 9.5" and not 9" width but I may be wrong. I was looking at those before I got mines. I didn't like the 8" front width with 35mm offset.

The wheels in the pictures are mine and on my 84 v8 car with coil overs. The rear are 18 x 9 .There web site says 18 x 9.5 but you can get 18 x 9 for the same price . It just takes about 2 weeks extra to get them. Great quality rims ..

Hmm...Songman and I tried a 19x9 35-mm? HRE on his stock 88GT and it fit with plenty of room in the rear. The tire was a 255/30/19. A 255/40/19 or 265/40/19 would have fitted nicely too.

I don't want my front tires to stick out on my 88 GT. I would like a staggered with wheel combo with a 7 & 8 or 8 & 9 in wheel combo with a wider rear lip. What offsets are you 88 owner's running on your 17 or 18 in wheels front and rear?

Thanks,

Rick 88

Well, I will be running 17x7 up front and 18x9 in the rear. Offsets in front and rear will be +38 tires will be 225/45/17 and 255/40/18 or 265/40/18. Oh, my rims will be the same as the above picture (HP Design Wheels) in Hyper Light. And yes the 18x9 do come in 5x100 bolt pattern. If you're running the 18x8 (+38 offsets) in front for the '88 it will stick out about an 1" outside the wheel well. Good luck.

Here's a picture of how the 18x9 (that's a 3" lip) looks like without the tires......

Note: Car is lower than what you see............needs to settle.

Rickady,

I like the way the tires fit the fenders on your car! Thanks for the offset info and tire size. I want a similar look with 18's this time.
What front springs are you using?

How many coils did you cut on your front springs? I have 1 coil removed and my car still looks higher.

Thanks for all your help guys! Unless I can get Evo's in an 18x7 and 8 combo I am going to pass. I want the fronts to tuck in more than the 8 in wide 38 offset front Evo's would allow. However, I really did like that pic of 9's on the back of the red Fiero.
I found some 18X7 42 offset and 18X8 35 offset Falken Torque 5 wheels with Gunmetal centers at Edge Racing. I think these wheels will show off my drilled & slotted rotors and red calipers. Check them out and see if you agree.

Thanks,

Rick 88

The calipers are powder coated "Bengal Red" and the rotor hats and vanes are ceramic coated a Stainless Steel Color (just to look new for ever,no rust) and the "PONTIAC" is a caliper sticker that is supost to hold up to the heat.
sorry for the bad pics but this was taken at night

Those pics are great! My calipers are red with a white Fiero logo from Rodney. My rotors look like yours also. The T/A vents and Aus Fiero vents look great together. How does the Shortstar look under the hood. It should package great and run better.

How dose the Short Star fit? Let me just say this, I still have my stock deck lid springs without cutting ANYTHING I did not want to have to put in struts to hold up the lid. The Short Star is shorter than the 3400 DOHC because the S* has a SS chain inside the heads and the 3400 has a belt on the outside of the engine to drive the cams.

I have similar straight cut tips with the rolled edge in polished stainless. I got them from JC Whitney online. They are very good quality and do not rust.

kooljess,
Are you using Coil overs, or just regular 88 suspension, (with any modifications)?

Thanks!

I'm running 17x7 with a 48mm offset on the front of my 88, with 215/45 tires. Anything more than 45mm will definatly stick out, especially with 8" wide wheels. Although, with 8" wide an 45mm or more offset you will definatly have to clearance the control arms to keep the wheel from rubbing at full lock. The inside of my rim just barely touches the control arm.
