I got a replacement valve cover for my V^. Mine was starting to peal and I figured I would prep and paint a used one and swap it out for a quicker turn around. I stripped all the paint from the out side but the inside is GROSS it looks like the engine I got this from did 500,000 miles!! I am cleaning it with engine degreaser and a brass bristle brush. My question is how do I clean inside the pcv valve box. There seems to be no way to remove it. Any good ideas would be great! Also.. How clean do I have to get the inside of the valve cover? My engine in the car now has 44K original miles so I don't want to put a junky one in there?

Thank you

I used some of that spray on engine degreaser to clean the inside of my valve covers. I got most of the stuff out of them using a tooth brush after it had softened. I then hosed them out with water and let them dry. I repainted them after that and installed them.

I bit the bullet and bought the 5 gallon can of Berrymen's carb cleaner, cost me $75. Drop parts in it for a few days and they come out clean inside and out. Remove all rubber grommets first, though, because they'll be gone otherwise.

yes, oven is really good i clean all my blocks and heads with this ,if it can clean baked on oil ,grease and other spills in the oven ,i thought i would give it a try ,that was 20 years ago, still use it,and you can get it at, doller stores cheap ,give it a shot,(soak the part down and let it sit for about 20 minutes, then rinse them off,)

Do NOT do what I did. Recently bought a spare valve cover and air cleaner housing for Jane's car--to chrome or powdercoat. I wanted to clean them a little, so I scraped the old gasket off the cover, the worst of the crap out of the pcv and breather boxes, and then put both cover and housing in the dishwasher late one night. Jane comes down next morning to get a cup out of the dishwasher for her morning tea and..................
The couch is hard and too short.

Wouldn't have been too bad, but I decided to kill 2 birds @ once and left most of the dishes in there.
