Well, Here it is: My car is a 87 GT sunroof, power everything. 3.4l DOHC engine with AC, and dual exhaust. I also am sitting on 17x8 Konig rims that feel pretty heavy to me. Oh, I do have an "Optima" battery up front. 1/4 tank of gas.

For the racers that can decipher this:

Most of you have seen my car already but here are some pics of it on the scales.

Enjoy! I hope this helps the crew and answers some questions.
Thanks Travis.

Cool. I'm tired of hearing how the DOHC is so heavy in the Fiero, it looks like its not far from the stock weight

You have the spare and jack up front still?

What's the weight distribution of a stock 88 GT?

I'm jealous of that scale, that's awesome! Wish there was one of those around my neck of the woods to put my car on. Not to hijack, but I saw you said your car has A/C. How did you get it to work with the DOHC? I called off doing the DOHC in my silver '88 GT because I wasn't willing to give up A/C since it's working so well in that car right now.

Thanks,
Dave

Sweet! I have a set of rims like yours in the 16x7 size. I've had them since 1999. Too bad they don't make them any more.

Not to hijack as well Mike
Dave,
You should be able to use the AC in your car with the DOHC. Mine will freeze me out of the car. What you will need to do is use the DOHC compressor with the 87-88 4 cyl Fiero AC lines that come off the compressor. They are configured to clear the DOHC oil filter cooler and oil filter or just use the DOHC AC compressor manifold and splice the 85-88 Fiero V6 and 85-86 4 cyl lines onto the DOHC manifold. Any AC shop can do that for you.

Hey guys, I am not sure why there is such a differance in the front weight. There are the fluid tanks and the jack on that side.

crazyd, You can order these scales from most speed shops and Summit. To make the A/C work with "Eriks" harness I bought from him, I simply screwed the pressure sensor into the port that is already on the Fiero's lines up front. It just screws in and has worked without a problem and is very cold. A + for Erik the whole electrical side of this swap was simply "plug and play", including the A/C

GT, yah! they dont make them anymore and I bent one and they are even harder to find in this size.

Now fellas lets get some suggestions as to how to lose weight? I know it's light but lets discuss the benifits against cost.

Thanks Travis.

Thats odd cause I weighed my 88 GT with the DOHC on a grain scale and it was right at 2950 with out me in the car. Given I have the T-tops which might add a little weight, and heavy 17 in rims, but I didnt have any of the AC stuff in the car. Does the 88 GT weigh that much more.

FieroReinke, I have an 88 but it is a 4 banger, I have been told that the 88's do infact weight more. Looking at my 88 the the front end does have alot more metal making up the front crossmember compared to my 87.

I am not an expert but how accurate are grain scales? These scales we use on an actual race car and are able to zero out each pad seperately before we lower the car onto them.

When I get the time I will weigh my 88 2.5 4cyl and I will get someone from my Utah group to put their 88GT on. Ill try for an T-top car too.

PS I dont have a spare up front althoug I do have the jack.

dunno if mentioned yet..probably not ..but a good idea would be bring that to shows and maybe alittle charge for weighing peoples cars for them .. ..u never know maybe like $1 or $2 ..or $5 even ..to have fun maybe or make some spare cash..and then maybe donate to a fiero cause or something else maybe..just an idea and thats pretty niffy device...

have fun ..while it lasts

My 88GT weighed at 2980 with me in it, so about 2800 without. My goal is to keep it under 3000 after the swap.
