alright it looks real good. I did something similar to my 85 GT except you can't see the tip. My question is what are you going to do with the exhaust cutouts in the rear bumper. I don't think it looks bad, but it looks like something should be there. I'm trying to figure out what to do next.
I don't know what car off hand it was, but I have seen some F1 style or other Race Car that had dual square/oval holes in the rear bumper skin to act as a diffuser. I think they had a rear exhaust but it was a centre exit rear exhaust. Maybe someone knows what I am thinking of.
To get that same look on the GT/Aero bumper all it would take is to flatten out the bottom section and seal off the exhaust ports.

The local muffler shop told me I didn't want to do this because it will soften the tire and stain the aluminum rim. They also said they wouldn't touch a system without a cat, even if it was just to weld it together. Something about a $2500 fine...

Check with your local hot rod guys, look for a rod and custom shop. In most cases all they have to do is say that they are building an off road system not to be used on the street. There is an exhaust shop here locally that will not only cut out the cat on our cars, but weld in the straight pipe for us.
Oh and as for staining the rim or softening the tire. Maybe if you put it pointing at the tire, or exiting under the tire or something ike that. But it has not had any issue at all with my rim, trim or tire.

Good to hear about the no issues. Didn't think it really would be especially with a wide tip. It'll be no prob for me to find a place south of 8 Mile to do the work.

Well for preparing for emission testing. (Air Care Testing) I removed the side exit and put on a spare stock setup with a cat for the time being.
First impression. I took one hell of a performance hit. Second impression. The car is damn near silent now. I can't believe how quite it is with a cat and muffler on the 4.9. WOW
Well here are the pics. I am not going to re-install the side exit until I I get it re-done with proper pipe and sized the way I want. That was the prototype that I removed. From the crappy setup that it was, it held up quite well.
Well enough chatter here are the pics.
And Yes that is snow in the background. But it was almost warm enough to work in a T-Shirt. And yes that is my Cat, she comes and hangs out with me when I am working on the car.

I am running a side exit exhaust that is run the way of the stock exhaust. 3" w/high flow cat and muffler, it runs across the back of the car and exits the bumper on the drivers side.

this is kind of a dumb idea but this would allow a lot of people to keep cat and a quite muffler then switch to straight out of the side or where ever you wanted. Heres my idea: Have 2 exhaust systems...one with cat and Muffler and one that branches off right before that point and go straight to the air. At the branch have a solenoid/servo/vacuum controlled switch open the Straight side. If this wouldnt make enough noise, or not allow you car to breath well enough then you could add another switch to the other side to block off the "constricting" passage. PS a quick question..Does air work a lot like elctricity in that it will follor the path of least resisstance? or will some of the air still travel down the "Constricting passage?"

The DMH-20030-1 electric cutout. That way I can be muffled when I need it, and loud when I don't. That what you were looking for?
