Which way does the door hinge pin go?.... Up or down?

I’m going to replace a couple of door hinge pins on my car this week.

The top pin on the passenger side door hinge is installed with the point up
and the “head” at the bottom, upside down. This doesn’t seem right. I would think
the head of the pin should be at the top of the hinge with the point facing down??

Is this correct?

Can someone look please?

Thanks------

point up
head down.

there was even a TSB about them falling out if the clip was broken.

that's what is happening with mine, the pin keeps coming out of the top part of the hinge.
the clip prob. broke.

what about the drivers-side, is it the same way "point up" ?

thanks

Hmm I always thought the top one was pushed in from the bottom and the lower one from the top. The top one can only be put in from the bottom as the door curves at the top preventing you from putting it in. Also this way the lower on can't fall out.

IIRC the pins got pushed down while the rest of the car was being assembled, breaking the clips.
As long as the bronze bushings are still ok, you can just replace the pin and you good to go.

I'm quite certain that due to the roll at the top edge of the door that it would be near impossible to install the upper pin from the top.

Where do you get the new pins from? dealer, aftermarket? The red hot rod has this issue on one of the doors. I just keep pushing the pin back up every once in a while. Guess I should fix it for good.

You can get a set of replacement pins from GM but they are not the originals, just a hair shorter but work just fine. I put them in my 84 and my 86 and they are both working just fine. Heres a good article on hinges;

http://spacecoastfieros.com/tech/hinge/

And heres the replacement hinge pin part number from GM ;

The part number of the hinge pin is
20043351, the bushing is 20429500, and the retainer is 204458993.

the site is;

I recently replaced my door pins and bushings. The dealer had the bushings but the pins were no longer available. I noticed once that a 92 S10 used door pins that were almost identical. So thats what im using in 2 of my fieros now. It must be made a little shorter to work with the uper hinge though.

Looks like what I was given at Napa that was supposed to fit. I just ground the ends down and they worked perfectly with a new old hinge (holes had been worn too large)
