So I'm thinking about buying a Cherry Bomb muffler for my Fiero (84SE), wan't it loud and don't wanna pay much. What type of Cherry bomb muffler would be best, the original straight one or the Cherry Bomb Turbo one that looks like a regular muffler. Thanks.

both fit but i like the straight tube one myself just for the add room around it . make sure to the straight end one if this is going in place of the cat or the section of pipe

Put it where the stock cat is.. Keep the stock muffler... Don't just have the cherry bomb. A friend of mine has that set up on his 84' and it backfires all the time... It gets really annoying and embarassing actually....
go with the "turbo" i had both. the glasspack rattled out, the duke sounded like a retarded racoon. The turbo has a more throaty sound, if thats even possible on the duke. they both give the same "performance" The turbo is more everyday good, kind of sounds like a turbine the way the exhuast comes out, like its blowing a real hard wind. If you have a good stock exhuast keep it .

Summit turbo muffler, the best muffler under $15. No cat with this muffler replacing yours and it will sound better then the cherry bomb and last longer.
I have a Cherry Bomb on the '87 SE, in place of the muffler, with a 3" resonated tip. The type I'm using is straight-through, with the shortest case the store had in stock. And I replaced the catalyst with a high-flow unit. The cherry bomb has been on my car for about 5 yrs with no problems.
The sound is what I call "rumbly-grumbly" from idle to about 2500RPM. But above 3000RPM or so, it sounds like a nest of angry bees. If I were in the habit of pushing the engine past 3000RPM alot, then it would annoy me.
I can't stand bees! I was considering replacing my cat with a cherry bomb as well. I would like a bit of a deeper, mellower sound to my exhaust. I don't expect, or even care about any performance gains, as my fiero is a fairly tame, daily driver with a tired, high mileage V6 (only for now of course ). But in the meanwhile, I simply don't risk pushing it very hard. Will I lose any low end torgue at all? Or will I lose any fuel economy? A nicer exhaust note is only mildly important to me, and as such, I'm not willing to actually sacrifice anything more than the small cost of a cherry bomb for it. On a similar note, how about exhaust tip resonaters? I don't see how they could possibly hurt anything, so how do they sound?
Thanks, David

I think it will sound like crap. I've heard other 4 cyl and V-6 cars with straight through mufflers and they sounded stupid. Maybe the turbo style muffler would sound better.

I contacted Summit and this is the response. _____________________________________
Arn, Thanks for writing. That muffler would actually have the "turbo" style of innards. This would be just 3 perforated tubes that loop back and forth inside of the muffler. There's no fiberglass or steel packing to blow or burn out.
These mufflers should have no problems fitting over the Walker pipes that you are talking about.
Thanks, Kip

Customer (Arn Brown) - 12/01/2005 06:15 PM Hello,
I have a hotrod that this muffler might work on. Can you tell me about its construction? Is it a glass pack, baffle, or steel wool pack?
Also, I have Walker mandrell bent pipes. They are a little fatter than most. Will the female end accept the Walker pipes?

The Turbo style muffler I put on was similar to this one, but a Dynomax. I did experience a torque loss over the more open muffler I was using, the Moroso.

I have a video of my Fiero with a Quad 4 and just a cherry bomb glasspack and a monza style resonated tip. The cherry bomb is mostly burned out becuase 3/4 of the paint is burned off, and people have seen it glowing red under my car on the highway.
Note, it is not a duke engine, and the exhaust is about 4 feet long.

Edit: I had a better one, but I cant find it on streetfire anymore. I should also add that my car is rather loud with this setup. ------------------ 84 Fiero Sport Coupe #1192 :: 86 Fiero Base Coupe Quad 4 :: 84 Chevette CS 4 Door

Befarrer, I don't have a sound bite, but my Moroso spiral muffler sounded deeper and more round than your setup, by what I hear in your video. If you change mufflers and want something as loud but deeper, you might look up the Moroso.
BTW, Nice notchy you have there. Looks like it handles pretty flat too.
