The SuperTrapp Technology A signature feature of SuperTrapp exhaust systems is the diffuser disc technology,. This technology allows the rider to adapt their bike, or ATV, to a specific riding environment. This is accomplished through a series of discs with a precisely aligned diameter that form the exhaust outlet. By adding or subtracting discs, the rider can tune the powerband and sound of their machine in just a few minutes with basic hand tools.
Removing discs decreases the exhaust opening and increases backpressure. This effectively decreases the powerband to create more low-end torque. It also decreases exhaust tone and enriches carburetion. Adding discs increases the exhaust outlet and decreases back pressure. This widens the powerband at the top end. It also increases exhaust tone and leans out carburetion.
Not a 3.4 but when I had my 2.8 I ran the west coast fiero flowmaster and it was great as far as sound and I thought performance at the time with the mods I had. Now with the v8 I am running true dual 40 series mufflers flowmasters and it was custom of course but I have never had a problem finding someone to do custom work with a bender and do it very cheap and good. I got someone to bend all pipe including pipe and welding and install on my car for 225 all i did was supplied flanges to headers and the mufflers not bad at all.

I used two 2, 2.5" supertraps (2.5" pipes to the Supertrapps) in my 85 GT (4.9 Caddy motor with 4T60E trans) no cats. With 10 difussers on each muffler that thing sounded real, real mean with 5 difusers on each muffler it was a lot more civilized (happier neighbors at 5 AM when I left for work). With 3 difusers on each side, It was alot quieter but 2 problems arose, performance was down and I could hear a "hissing" sound comming from each muffler as if they had an air leak. I would use them again in another car, because I liked the fact that you can "tune" to your needs.

"Im not v8 but i also have 2" mandrel exhaust to shorty supertrapps. I absolutely hate them. looking to sell them and go to a resonator setup with factory GT tips. I dont like them because: A- everytime you go to change a disc out or add more you almost everytime strip a bolt, break one off, or snap the head off of it. B- the sound reminds me of leaky, rotten mufflers C- for the price I paid for them, the value is not there. I now have to run them open ended because the one side has too many broken studs! absolute sh!t. And i have had 2 cars with these and 4 supertrapps in total. oh and good luck removing the baffle to repack them. after time they weld/rust themselves together. just my opinion!"
I am not a big fan of the Supertraps either. I put one on a 8 horsepower generator and there was so much back pressure that the engine would not run. I ended up putting small washers between the discs to space them apart so the engine would run. The bad part of this was that I took the muffler off a Honda Civic Si. If a small engine would not even run with this thing, how could the car?

It's been a while, but I think there were probably 8~10 of the discs. The washers I used in between them were pretty thin, maybe 1/16th inch thick. I'll try to dig it out of the storage building and make sure. It was kind of funny to run the generator because it would smoke a little when you first started it and it would blow killer smoke rings.
I have the brushed stainless versions and I run them without the disks, and I like the sound--nice and loud V8 rumble. Here is a low quality picture of one of them.

Personally I think SuperTraps are the ugliest thing in the exhaust world. A caped muffler?? Maybe in a marine engine. Then every one heard sounds like a lawn mower with a raspy sound. I can see from the posts above that many agree with me. Unfortunately no one here has dyno data for mufflers so performance is unknown even for the most common combinations. I would go with the Flowmaster as every one I have heard has a great low rumble sound perfect for a Fiero V6.

The guy who wrote this origionally is a retard who maybe should have read the instructions. He was tightening the bolts cold. You don't do that. You put it together loose and once it's hot, you tighten. Also, if he was breaking them off, he obviously wasn't using a high temp antisieze on the bolts.
