OK lets say your wiper motors board goes bad, or the wiper switch goes bad. In this case he spent 60 bucks on a new board, 76 on a new motor and got a long life of 5min out of it. Our best guess is the switch in the column was messed and was frying everything.

So it was late and raining and we needed a quick fix. After talking to watts and confirming the column switch is probably bad and we do not want to fry another $60 wiper board. We take it all apart and do some quick thinking to make a switch.

1st remove the board.

Next put a male spade into the white wire. On the wiper harness.

Now use a female spade and plug into the 2nd pin from the top on the motor. This is the low speed input.

Now you need to make a temp wiper switch. First remove the fuse. Then get 2 male spade plugs, an in line fuse and a switch with at least a 10amp load rating.

The 2 male spades should be the same length and close together.

Now plug the 2 spades into the empty fuse slot.

When you are all done, the motor will have a direct 12 source and you can turn the wipers on and off via your harness. This will bypass both the switch in the steering column and the circuit board. This is not meant to be used long term but is a quick fix to get you wipers if you need to get across town in the rain, or so you can drive your car while you wait for the proper parts to fix it.

This harness could even be used if you need to simply stop power to the wipers for a ghost wiper issue. Just make a simple shorter harness and have it tucked under the dash, and you can turn it off and never ever get a ghost wipe, but when you need the wipers and they will work just like normal.

Hopefully this helps someone out when they are in a jam.

Always good to have a temp fix in the bag of tricks. Quick question on a similar, yet different subject.

Wipers on my '85 stay up when the switch is turned off. Got so many other things I am doing to the car right now, I simply make sure I turn them off when they are bottomed out. Is this caused by corrosion on a connection inside the motor? or is there some type of relay mechanism that shuts them down when they bottom out?

I believe this would be in the pulse board. Try cleaning or replacing the board.

That's caused by a bad parking switch in the wiper motor. Best solution is to just replace the wiper motor; they're still available as new parts.

I agree. mine was doing the same thing plus whe washer pump quit working. Replaced the board and it still didn't work. Now has a new motor and all is well.

Thanks people. I seem to remember tearing a motor apart many decades ago (non-Fiero for sure). There was a plate instide that rotated with copper contacts for about 350 degrees of the rotation. Once the motor started turning, power would be applied across these strips. If you turned the switch off, then the motor would continue to run 'till it hit that "dead zone". Is this also how the Fiero wiper motor works? How much for a new motor? Anyone tried reparing one on their own?

Very similar. There is a small plastic pivot arm that rides on the gear. This arm opens or closes a set of contacts.

Don't know what a new one is going for. I'll send you a used one for $15, I pay the shipping.
