Ok, I've seen quite a few with this setup. Where can I get an Alternator bracket to put the Alternator in place of the Power Steering pump on a 3.8L Series II engine? I have pulled the 3.8 from my Fiero (I bought it from a guy who had it installed and it was poorly done) and I'm trying to get it right before I put it back in. The top engine mounts were fastened to the firewall (not designed for such stress) and I have pulled those mounts. I have pulled off the PS pump and want to move the Alt down to there. This isn't the best shot, but its what I've got at the moment.

I got mine from Loyde; aka FastFieros on the forum. His solution kills two birds with one stone. You get a mount for a dogbone in the stock 2.8 location, and your alt is mounted in the stock location for the 2.8 engine.
I bought mine from him about a year and a half ago, and I honestly do not remember how much I paid. I also picked up his T-stat housing and adapter to re-route my heater hoses since the manifold for the hoses have to be removed to install the dogbone bracket.
The thing I liked the most about doing business with Loyde is that he gives out his phone number and makes himself available to answer any questions. That in and of itself proved invaluable as I installed the bracket setup on my car
As far as alternative ways to mount the alt lower, check out the 3800 thread in this link on page 7. There are some that remove the A/C compressor and mount the alt in that location using thier own braces. This is just one example, but there are other threads out there with a similar set up.
I have heard back from Fast Fieros. I would like to say that he was very prompt and considerate. However I did not consider his price to be within my range.
I will be pulling a couple of resources together this week and hope to design/create my own mount to utilize the 3800 alternator (instead of the Fiero one). If there is interest I will have a couple made when I finalize the design. I plan to create fresh rather than modify existing.
Edit: to make the wording closer to what I intended

I have heard back from Fast Fieros. I would like to say that he was very prompt and considerate. However I did not consider his price to be reasonable. Some may find it fair but I personally and not going to pay that much for a couple of spliced mounts.

<Loyde> Wrote.... Note Clint has reworded to reflect closer to his thoughts as explained in an email to me... thank you clint, and let me know if I can help you in any way with your thoughts .....
Humm, I see you posted while I was pulling some pictures together to show the alt mounts I build... No matter... My stuff is for people that do not have the TTT.... ( Time, Tools, Talent ) Once you build about 15 of these things the way I do it, then support the people on the phone all hours of the day and night, the price is reasonable. Someone that is DIY and has the TTT, then they of course are going to say it can be done cheaper and better...
I now use the mill to cut my dogbone piece, I cut with strenght in mind, and ease of TIG welding.
The Fiero alt is the commonly used one because the wiring for one thing, and the availablity of the alt coming from the V6 2.8 that is being removed.
As far as design from a clean sheet of paper, well, there are only so many OEM holes you are going to put bolts into and the design and concept are going to be pretty close to everyone else's.

Very true. Like I said before. Your price is fair (it takes a long time to design and build and rebuild). It's just more than I want to drop down on something as simple as a mount I can build. With that in mind (and since others have requested a build thread) here is what I plan to do.
Here we can see the P.S. pump removed and an open area for the Alt. (yes, this is a used engine that was recently pulled out of a Fiero to correct installation issues)
Me holding it in the general position I want. This is the 3800 Alt. I do not have the Fiero one as I bought this with the 3800 in it.
The long mount on the 3800 alt matches up with one of the P.S. pump mounts!
Another angle
Good clearance from the back.
All I need to work on now is pulley positioning and the back bracket.
Thanks again Fast Fiero's for your help and offer on a mount. It's just out of my price range is all.
OK, I relocated a couple of the belts and decided to take a slightly different route to move the Alt to the back pulley instead of the front. This is where the Alt is going to sit.
This is a real rough concept of what the mount is going to look like. The bracket will be supported by the 3 bolt holes around the PS pump and the one large one on the block. I also plan to incorporate the tensioner in with the mount for ease of installation. Kind of like this.
I hope to have a rough concept done mid-week and a full solid bracket by the end of the week if things go well.
Will still have to work out the Tensioner pulley position. While working on the template I realized it needs to go much higher to allow clearance for the water pump pulley.
