Hello all, Sometime ago there was a thread on a reverse rotation olds th425, and using it longitudinally. It was accomplished by removing the chain drive between the torque converter and transmission and replacing that with four gears. I very much want to try this but need info on the gears. Little help???? Thanks, Parsons

First, welcome to the forum!

Here is the thread:
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Archives/Archive-000002/HTML/20041015-1-030268.html

I haven't seen cardealer post in a quite a while and the black GT body was up for sale around a year ago.

Thanks for the welcome. If only I could find out about those gears...I have a Mclaren M6GT replica I put on the road in 1984...Yes, I have been driving it for over 20 years. It has the Olds 455 V8 and the th425 transmission. I really want to flip the transmission around for better weight distribution. I don't want to do it by flipping the differential as that will mean shortening the axles and with 335 17 tires on there the axles are too short already. That gear arrangement between the torque converter and the transmission done by "cardealer" would do the trick. I am searching....Any leads out there? Thanks.

You will need to have the TWO gears made. they take the place of the belt inside the case. I forgot how he mounted them.

Eh parson As for cardealer it was so custom stuff.the reason why he never mass produced any was it cost to much to be cost-worthly..

Now i am alittle confused here..U say that u dont want to flip the diff because it would mean that u have to shorting ur axles?

when i had my block and transaxle set-up the normal way i measured the axles and then i flip the diff 180* and the only differents was 5mm +/- from each side and a 5mm plate and cut and weld can fix that...Now i am not using a 455 with the thm425..i am using a 300zx tt and a thm325 trans..there is not alot diff from the 2 except weight

now before any 1 says some thing yes i know it is to high,,it has been cut and welded 10cm to drop it better..it was 1 of those nights when u just weld and weld and not think about what the heck ur doing..

Does the flipped diferential effect your clearance between the axle and the engine? If so, how much closer are they? Any information on flipping it would be much appreciated.

Flipping the diff puts the axle higher (closer to the engine).
From an email I received 2/22/06 from Wayne Wright:
"I was in the shop today and thinking about the adapter that I used to turn the final drive 180 degrees. It shouldn't be too hard for someone to do in his garage. Actually, turning the final drive was easy, the big problem it caused was that it placed the axle higher. The axle hit the crank counter weights, so I had to manually grind a big chunk out of two counter weights. It turned out OK, the shop that balanced my engine was able to use 'heavy metal' to rebalance. I think with a 350 Chev V8 it would not hit the crank because it goes through the center of the block and there are no weights there."

Wayne contacted me after seeing my site on the TH325/425 Fiero swaps. I've uploaded his entire build story (reversed TH-325 and 3.8 V6 into '79 Fiat X19) to my website: http://www.fieroaddiction.com/fiat.html
