This isn't directly Fiero related, but it does have to do with something a fiero has so there. lol
I was wondering if anyone knew, either from taking apart, or just knowing, what the difference was between a two prong and a three prong relay? What is the extra prong for and if I had to convert from a three prong, down to a two prong, what would be required? Thanks,

Justin

I don't know for sure, But the three prong may have something to do with the hazard flashers.

There are many differant styles of flashers, but basicly: Two prong is an on/off flasher. Three prong is a reciprocating flasher (meaning left/right but one is always on) like on a school buss.

Three terminal flashers in the olden days (even before Fieros) used the third terminal to flash the indicator on the dash (or more likely, on the turn signal switch housing). They only had one indicator lamp for the turn signal on those...

Alright, to further clarify what I am doing. I have an 86 ninja sportbike. It has a 3 prong flasher. I integrated the rear turn signals into the taillight (it has two bulbs). When I use a turn signal it is fine, but if I am on the brake then they flash faster, like a bulb is out due to the different resistance. The integrator I used was a simple trailer light converter from walmart. (the one that you use if you have a different turn signal bulb on your car than a brake light). I know I need to get a flasher that doesn't have a "bulb outage indicator" but I cannot find one around in the 3 prong. So I am thinking about switching if I can. Let me know, thanks for the replies so far.

Try an electronic flasher. About $7.00 at Auto Zone. It doesn't care about resistance. I know they're available in 2 prong, for our Fiero's. (fixes those slow signals and works with LEDs). I'm pretty sure I saw 3 prong too.

Si si, what he said. I have a 2-prong electric in my Fiero. I got sick of waiting for my 20-year old flasher to "warm up" for 5 seconds before I could start merging... And yes, they do have them in 2 and 3 prong.

When I had my Kawi Spectre, I put a full fairing on the front and had two extra turn signals left over.

As these were dual element bulbs for running and turn signals, I wired them so I had rear marker lights on these front signals that now replaced the rear lights. From the rear I now had two yellow and one red light illuminating the bike from the rear at night.

Now for the 3 way flasher I used a push/pull switch to activate the 3 wire flasher on the motorcycle. One terminal to power and each of the other terminals to left and right signals. When you activated the push/pull switch it in turn would alternate the right and left flashers to appear as hazard lights.

I liked this way of doing things as it would alternate the left then right lights rather then just flashing them together on and off.

I was thinking or wiring the rear reflectors on the rear of the fiero with the same flasher and led lights. This way in the event of a break down, you can warn other motorists with low power consumption lights which should not run down the battery.

I tried one of the electronic ones, but I have only seen the 3 prong with the ever so not needed "bulb out indicator". I ended up buying some cool dude LED purposed 3 prong flasher from Hong Kong on fleabay.... thanks for the info guys...
