Whichever side you found this knock sensor on, there is one in the exact same place on the other side of the block. If you don't see it, look for the hole it screws into. Then you just have to get another sensor.
Goodluck!
P.S. I agree, Loyde is the man! Loyde, we'll be in touch soon.
Hey Chris,,,
Got that GEN 5 IC installed yet? I am looking for one in about 2 weeks. Man look at that sig with the 1998 Grand Prix MP112 GTP - 11.48@117 ... That would be sweet in that Fiero
Earl, those knock sensors are in the 3800NA Series II engines also. So you should be able to get some for cheap at the JYard.

Ok well not much progress on the 38, but I did actually pull the 3.4 outa there….
What a pita…. Took me 6 hours by myself to do it…. I'm going to cry, but at least I know its going to a good home
Ummmmmm while the motor was out I am going to store it so I can save a little money….. This thread is going to die for a few months, and then I shall resurrect it
o here’s the list of **** I broke while taking it out
Rear hydraulic lines.... ehh they were rusted ne who Pass Side caliper (put the tool on the wrong wholes and screwed it up) Rear Flexible brake lines.... well ummm, they were in the way of the motor coming down Two Trans mounts that ripped due to the stress of holding the Trans with out the engine 1 stud on the driver strut broke off Stripped one caliper bolt Ummm that’s its I think its pretty good
I need some new stuff anyway
Here’s the cost
Time at the hobby shop 70 dollars 72 cuts and scrapes priceless My forearm got smashed keeping the engine from falling on the ground…. That motor is heavy one visit to the ER Buying a dude lunch for getting the engine off my arm 5 dollars
That’s it as if that isn’t enough

sorry iv taken another job so my free time has been at a premium
Well I finally got the motor off the ground, and on a stand, took the supercharger off, to inspect it for wear, the oil for the supercharger smells a little burnt, but the wear looks typical…
Within the next three days I will be taking the oil pan off and inspecting a few select main bearings…. Harness is done 100% even wire loomed… eh now I just need funds

Well im on my way out the door, im going to a scrap yard to see if I cant find the following
Alt Starter Flywheel from a Camaro
I also need to get the plug for the alternator so I can make a charging system from scratch as the harness I had was all FUBAR.
Gawd this motor is a heavy piece!
Are you going with the stock Alt, or Fiero alt? I have a stock SC3800 Alt that is practically brand new that I need to get rid of. let me know if you are interested.
I changed it out for a low mount setup using the Fiero Alt.

My motor came with that same adaptor and it was a 97 out of a Buick Park Ave Ultra. Swapped it with one from the GTP motors, might wanna do the same thing. There is one for sale on Clup GP now for $15.00 plus shipping, good deal, was going to buy ti but dont need it.
well ill repost the pics later just got home, its 0300 hours, and im beat, took off the timing cover removed harmonic balancer.... and helped my friend work on his 700 HP turbo mustang :P
Hah.. only 700? Don't come looking for cars around here..
BTW did i mention it turns that out at the wheels, and is completely streetable and legal with AC?? ne ways, back to getting this thread back on track
Took all the mains off tonight, the bearings have a little scoring, only one is BARELY down to the copper! so its turnable....
The thrust bearing looks brand new as far as the sections that would wear when the crank walks, man this is an impresssive engine.... has anyone ever torn one apart???? wow just soo much enginering!!!!
well off to bed, does anyone know where i can host these pictures at so the rest of you guys can see them????

No IDea but it looks like the one that doesnt work (interfering with enginemount).....this is WCF's
It is similar to the Park Avenue adapter that I got before knowing the stock GTP adapter works too....
I wonder if you also have some scoring on the edges of the SC lobes and the inner housing...is that normal wear from carbon buildup? Ow btw, dont forget to check the coupler...mine has play on both the gears side and the snout side. Cant see it but feel it.
good luck!

Well i have made a lot of progress in my buildup.... here is what iv been up to
the engine is now a long block, has everything on it except the timing cover because i need to get a GTP oil filter housing... other than that everything is in the motor, crank, rods, pisions, heads, lower intake, supercharger.
Right now progress has come to a dead stop because the paint i am using for the parts isnt drying as quick as i thought it would (almost 90 percent humidity).
Here is the parts list so far of extra things that i have bought
Paint (high temp thick stuff) 4 cans - 25.00 Timing chain set - 150.00 8 cans of brake clean - 25.00 Water pump - 40.00 EGR block off plates - 10.00 ZZP oil pressure upgrade - 25.00
Thats it for now, im out to work, i will have pics soon

If you need any help I might be able to give you a hand. I live on the west side around 90 and 1604. I've never done a swap yet, but plan to do the 3.8SC when I get back from my Korea tour.
