I put one of those CRX cold air intakes on my v6 the other day, and it is SOOOO LOUD! I cant even stand it, it sounds like a huge vaccum leak. Even sitting in the car with the windows up, the noise is overpowering the engine and stereo. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any way to muffler it? Thanks
Nick

Two things can help. First off, check your filter. The cone types are louder than the cannister types. Second, you can wrap some insulation around the pipe to dampen the resonance. You'll want a baffle in the engine compartment opening. I used a mouse pad that was cut and slit around the cut for a nice fit. That helped some too.

From a personal point of view, I had the cannister type K&N and I liked it. You are right about the sound being right out there though. Kind of like Darth Vader on steroids.

Hope this helps.

2 of my buddies have em'. Personally I love the sound especially during cold idle its the loudest. But fiero_silva has tricked many hondas into thinking it is a BOV and now they fear!:P

Remove it and put the stock intake back on, and just stick a K&N filter in the can. Fiero has cold air intake right from the factory. Sell your kit on e-bay, then use the money for a better mod.

Get Rodney Dickman's CAI setup. It uses the stock filter, but gets rid of the water diverter in the fenderwell. You get the induction noise under throttle, but the hiss is greatly reduced. Quieter than the CRX intake, but louder than stock.

As was already said, the stock system is already a CAI, and a better one than something that sucks in from the engine bay. Even with the stock air filter it's plenty good for the Fiero.
Also, K&N air filters don't flow that much more air than the stock ones, but they allow more dirt through. If you feel 1/16th of a horsepower is worth wearing down your engine faster, go ahead and use one. Else keep the stock.

And WHAT are you basing that statement on??? Its pretty much universally accepted they flow MUCH better then paper and the oiled gauze catches way more dirt. Its been proven over and over again on televison shows, and magazines where they've done dyno tests and flow test with them clean and dirty. Id love to know your source for your statement.

Check out this article: http://home.usadatanet.net/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm

I'm not taking my K&N filters out and tossing them (they are expensive.) But I replace them when I rebuild an engine, and I'd never buy another K&N again. Better to just use OEM.

You asked for a source, this one is pretty definitive.

I don't know who to believe anymore. K&N says theirs is better, Puralator says theirs is better AC says theirs is better and so on down the line. I like the K&N.

There's very little truth in advertisement unless there is ligitimate data to back it up. I like test results and since you will not find many on the site that have had a fight with ignition modules in their car that will say they've found something more dependable than the A/C Delco module, I think OE is something to get back to. Think about it, the original equipment manufacturer is the only one of the bunch that has something to loose by making a substandard product.

Yesterday I found out that despite the claims of many of the big time tooth paste manufacturers, Ultrabrite has one of the best teeth whitening effects over forty different brands which had practically none as tested by consumer reports, and that included those claiming peroxide use and the like to get the job done, it's amazing how much the general public is misused and abused with lies to get their hard earned money and these companies have the nerve to cry foul when they are robbed or cheated, something they do everyday of business.

An internet webpage...it must be an authoritative source.

i don't know if this is the best way or using RODNEY DICKMANS setup but i can tell you that i put the CRX CAI on mine and hated it. it sounds like a huge vacum leak, and IMO that embarrassing. also i could not hear the intake roar at all(that was the reason i installed in the first place). now, granted, i have a BORLA EXHAUST and maybe it drowned out the roar?, but who knows. needless to say i went back to stock with the water diverter MIA. hissing is very slight now.
