I'm trying to remove my rear uppers, but I need to remove the axle nut first. When I try to turn the nut the axle turns and it's driving me crazy! what can I do to stop the axle from turning? Help!!

This is simple. Put car on jack stands. Put lug nut on two studs next ot each other . Get a long pry bar. Wedge the pry bar between the two studs and the center of the hub. Rotate the axle until the pry bar hits the ground. Torque the heck out of the axle nut until it is loose and off.

^^Thanks I will give it a try^^. With an outside temp of 98, that nut was driving me nuts. My dog had more brains than me, he just watched me through the livingroom window in the comfort of A/C.

I'm lucky. Impact guns are great for that kind of thing.

Or better yet pop the center out of your wheel. Put it back on and set it on the ground and break it loose. Block the wheels or something of course.

this is my way too - step one of this kind of job: pop center cap & break loose axle nut with car on ground. this is also a good way to tighten it too

The spare will work for this if your socket won't fit in through the opening on the full-sized wheel.

Read many times on axle install instructions to NOT use an impact gun. I use it only if I going to scrap the axle.
