My driver's side motor would not turn off as the end-of-cycle thing is shot. I put a momentary toggle in the curciut until I couild get around to replacing the unit. Works great, so much so, I have yet to spend the bucks for new unit. So if your thinking about stealing my car, best do in the daytime else you wont see where youre going. Oh did that 3years ago.... I will fix it someday, when there's nothing else left that I want to change or mod. Ha, like that day will ever come?

What model car? color? I did this to a silver 85GT and it was sold somewhere near lansing I believe. It had a bad tranny when traded in (I didn't trade it in). I bet they auctioned it.

we flint pl are lazy and dont feel like tracking the problem down so they invent their own headlamp system...it goes w my car since i av alot o switches for things mounted in the ashtrays...fuel pump, kill, neons, turbo, nitrous safety switch, fan switch, amp power wire for subwoffer, and interior neons and i still have open switches left...so i might as well use them... oh yes its a 1986 v6 4spd fiero coupe

Not sure on threads/posts/pics on this you could check the archives--but buddy has you covered above... I`m pretty sure the link I put in will have the digrams you need.

Here are the instructions I had on the MFC webpage a REALLY LONG time ago:
How to save wear and tear on the headlight motors
So now your headlights are working properly again, whew! How can you help preserve their life.
The easiest thing to do is put an in-line switch to control the headlight motors. The second life saving procedure is to regrease the headlight gears. Since the switch is easy, I will explain it first. Run down to your favorite electronics supply store (ie. Radio Shack , Autoparts store) and purchase a "on/off" rocker switch, your choice of design, and some 18 gauge wire (I believe that is close to the size. You may want to double check the size with what GM uses for the headlight switch). Get about 3 feet of wire....heck, get a roll of it! Remove the headlight switch/dimmer control panel from the dash (4 torx screws). Now remove the trim plate that is located under the steering column (4 hex head screws). Gently remove this trim. Take the headlight switch and unplug the harness from it. On that harness you will see a white wire. Cut the wire and attach some quick connectors, one male, the other female (that way if you remove the switch, you can just hook the wires back together). Now take your switch and find a nice place where you would like it and then cut two pieces of wire to the appropriate length.
Put the corresponding connectors on each end of the two pieces of wire. Now plug the white wire into your new wire, then plug this wire into the switch. Run your other new wire from the switch to the other half of the white wire. You now have an inline switch. Now test out your switch. Turn your headlights on. They should go up. Now turn them off. If they stay up your switch is in the "open position". Make a mental note of this. Now flip the switch and the headlights will go down - your switch is now in the "closed position". (if your headlights don’t stay up , then try it again with your switch flipped).
With your switch in the "closed position" your headlights will operate like normal. However, if you put your switch in the "open position" then when you turn on your headlights they will open, but when you turn them off, they will stay up. To lower them, simply flip your switch to the "closed position". Simple eh?
To finish up the installation, unplug the connectors from the toggle switch. Run the wires down inside the opening where the headlight/dimmer panel was. You will see a small hole back there and with the bottom trim panel off you can reach the wires. Now run the wires to the location you desire and install the switch. Replace the trim panel below the steering wheel, this will cover the wires. Use electrical tape and wrap up the connectors. Replace the headlight/dimmer switch panel and you are all done. Now when you stop for gas, you don’t have to put your headlight motors down, just flip your new switch to the "open position" and turn off the headlights like normal. You can leave them this way all winter if you so desire. It doesn’t matter to the headlight motor which position it is in.

yeah sorry for not being specific...when i switch my headlights to on...nothing happens...no power to the motors. so i want to make my own power source going to the headlamps with a 2 way reversing double toggle and leaving the lights hooked to the original switch and mount the new one below that for the motors so i can leave em up an hav em odd...i have strobes in my headlamps..i just need to kno what wires do what so i can possibly wire it up...but wow the one thing there...A+++++......I may use that on future fieros as i am thinking about buying 2 2m4s this weekend

ok from what i can tell from this here is that either the left and right actuator relays are what switches polarities for the headlamps to go up and down or the relay isolation does..but i stil cannot figure out what to send power to to make the headlights work like i want off of a togle switch...i want to move control of headlamps from the headlight switch to a toggle..if someone can figure out how to do this from this wire diagram it would be greatly appreciated...could it also be possible that my actuator relays are both bad from just sitting for a month?!?!?! how do i go about testing my actuator relays?
here is a thought....the white wire coming off light switch into the relay isolation goes to either the pink or the dark blue wire to make the hed light go up and the oppisite wire to make it go down? if so ive got some major work to figure out how to do it...

ok i just tested it and to open the green wire has to be positive and grey wire has to be negative and it will shut off properly when fully open! also to close green wire has to be negative and blue has to be positive and when fully closed it shuts off like its supposed to ...plus the motor moves a tiny bit faster to open and close than it used to yay a plus for me

never mind, you already figured out that you were backwards.

Open up the front hood --look on the firewall there, (drivers-side) you`ll see a cable leading in, you can pop them threw there--which will come out by the fuse box--but a little higher, or one of the other little plug areas, it will make sence once you see that cable I`m talking about--nice diagran by the way, I`m waiting until the thread is all done to bookmark.....

lol ok i repaired the diagrams so that noone else who sees this tread will make that mistake...and yes i figured out they were backwards by testing the theory out on my spare motor...
actually you were closer in the first pics, your worded discription was correct, but your diagram was wrong on the closing cycle. if the head lights were up, the grey would have a open circuit because of the limit switch. go back to your old "closing" pic and make the blue wire + and the grey as no power and you'll be all done.
i suggest that you wire a double throw double pole switch like this
i would use a momentary switch so incase there is a problem with the limit switch or the gear ever gets stripped out the motor wont keep trying to run.

lol...my headlingts r the least of my probs now....go to my other thread "will this work in my fiero?..." i hope u can help craig lol or know how to do it
. You can leave them this way all winter if you so desire. It doesn’t matter to the headlight motor which position it is in.
I was thinking of unplugging the motors and just leaving my up all winter this year, tired of fighting with cleaning the doors in the mornings when it snows/sleets/ice. ( i have to park outside ) But i was concerned about hurting anything from the long term use..
Sure, it might look a bit silly to drive around with headlights open all the time and not 'on', but would be easier on me ( and the motors )
