HI- I have read several of the threads on the bleeding of the hydraulic clutch and also of the pedal replacement. My problem is that I am haveing an extremely difficult time getting into first or reverse. I have an 84 with 4 speed. There are no leaks and my pedal looked good- I pulled the master cylinder and discovered that the push rod is damaged (bent) and the hole in the pushrod was egg shaped giving me about a 3/8 inch of play. I purchased a new master off of ebay and the pushrod and master is in great shape- my question is is there any bushing that goes over the post on the pedal that the push rod from the master connects too via cotter pin or does it just go over the post as is. I do not want to install new master and damage pushrod hole again. Just so evryone knows- I too was told that it was my pedal- but i lbuilt up the push rod center and forced it onto the pedal and the car shifted great- just a temp fix thoug- so if anyone is having same problem check the hole in the pushrod- a simple fix with a nes master. Thanks

I had a similar problem on my 4 speed, my problem was that the arm on the shaft of the transmission that actuates the clutch was bent and beginning to tear. The one on mine was steel so i replaced it with a cast iron one and the problem was solved. I was told it was somewhat common. It is the part that connects with the slave cylinder and the shaft that engages/disengages the clutch.

Some of the earlier petals were metal to metal , I know the 88s have a plastic bushing.
I am getting ready to order an adjustable Clutch Banjo from Rodney Dickman they all come with Oilite bushings.
He also sells replacement clutch and brake pedal bushings.

Your pedal is probably bent. It's hard to tell unless you compare. I lost all disengagement on my 84 4 speed until I replaced the pedal

And for insurance I added an adjustable banjo, (pushrod) from www.rodneydickman.com

This hole will not elongate...it will probably outlast the car.

I had the same problem and here is what I found out:

1. My clutch arm was cracked and bent. I replaced it.

2. There are two clips that hold the shifter cables down. They are located in the engine bay by the intake. I had lost one of them and every time I shifted, the cable would rise up and pop out. I bought new ones and problem solved.

Good luck and hope this helps.
