Yes you can.

My first Archie kit was an automatic kit. Back in the early 90's when I bought my first kit I had originally intended to run a V8 with my stock automatic. But later I realized the fiero automatic was not a good idea for a V8 and bought a 5 speed trans and all the related hardware..... but did the V8 swap with the same "automatic" kit. It worked fine, but the thick adapter plate between the engine and trans forced me to cut a bit deep into the passenger frame rail to clear the dampner that I had to use. (400 small block) . A few months later I changed over to the reguler Archie stick shift kit and sold the "automatic" kit.

........By the way. If anyone has an Archie "manual" kit but wants to use it with an automatic transmission, all you need to do is get a Chevy 153 tooth flexplate (easily found on ebay... or on older cars from the 60's). The flexplate will need to be redrilled to allow the Fiero torque converter to bolt on. Use washers to space things corectly.

I have a L36, but if I put in a SBC, I'd go with an Archie kit in a blink. There are no other options IMHO.
