Definitely get your hands on a getrag transmission if you're going to be putting down that many ponies.

I'll second the request for pictures, and add that I'd love to hear the engine's story and information about it, too.

Good luck finding a flywheel. You're probably going to have to have one custom balanced.
I think the SBC swap kits use a custom flywheel.

Sounds like a fun project, though. Please keep us posted.

Internally balanced? Cool. V8 Archie's flywheel should work.
I had an odd-fire 3.8 (Yes. I know. Totally different animal), that had a bobweight on the flywheel the size of Rhode Island. It still vibrated like a paint shaker at idle.

You've probably noticed a healthy dose of cynicism in some of the previous posts.
We've gotten that way (some of us, more so than others) by being repeatedly bullshitted.

The best way to de-fuse that cynicism is to post pics!

All kidding aside, I enjoy reading about 4.3 (and related) swaps.
They're kind of cool, if for no other reason than they're uncommon.
What is the CID of your motor? (I could figure it out by the bore/stroke numbers you gave but I'm too freakin' lazy, and I figure you know already.)

BTW... Welcome to the Forum!

Any SBC 153 tooth flywheel will work, but you will need to remove a tiny bit of material from the outer edge and put a big chamfer on the flywheel side edge to clear the bellhousing (I am assuming you will be using a 1" thick adapter plate like Archie's). You will also have to drill and tap the Fiero clutch bolt pattern. Of course, you can just give Archie a call and he'll set you up with everything you need. You can also get in touch with Russ544. He has a 4.3 liter V6 in one of his cars using a Street Dreams (Zumalt style) kit.

Good luck, welcome to the forum, and post up some pictures!!!!!

To post pics, Click on blue box at bottom of page. It is the "Pennocks Image Poster" AKA as PIP.

As for transmissions, V-8 Archie is just about done making his kits that allow you use a Pontiac G6 6-spd.

There posted pics at this site http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1621200 so you can go there and see engine need rebuild as you can see need new pistons flat tops the bore on the engine now is 4 inch but will be boring it out to 4.155 due to more cubes to make up for loss of compression go from 273 inches to 294 inches

Engine Man, welcome to the forum! You are bringing a project that will interest a lot of people. You should contact California Kid to talk about how to beef up a Getrag. If you do a "search" you'll see different experiences with how Getrags hold up to 400+ HP (all would agree they are better than the Izuzu). Cali Kid does a rebuild and cryo treatment that makes the tranny even better than stock, for not too much more $$$ than a typcial shop rebuild.

Here's a link to a recent rebuild he did to get you started. If you can find this thread on your own using "search" I'll buy you a cup of coffee next time you're in town

I would really hesitate to turbo an engine that was built for that level of competition, unless I had experience with professionally building turbo race engines. I'd die if I ruined something like that. Not to mention that I like manuals, and 600 hp with even a built fiero manual is pushing it, I think.

well i built engines for a living so not realy to woried it realy isnt black magic like some would like you to think just need to lower compression and pick the right turbo and cam the block , crank & rods are heavy duty racing parts and i know how to blueprint the engine and check all the clearances about 10 pounds of bost and maybe a timing retarder if i think i need

Yipy looks like i will have the new pistons there dished so if the compression works out to be 8 -9 to 1 looks like it will be turbocharged but will not be able to run as much boost at 9 to1 compression
