one thing i dint understand with the hotrod deal is why not use the new vortec heads if they flow like the v8 vortec heads much better flow and i think you would just redrill the intake side like they did on the V8 votec heads before they came out with a intake that had the bolt holes in the right plalce just need a intake gasket to locate where to put the new bot holes

well the pistons came in and look great and where a great deal only $93 bucks due to one great guy who sold me 6 pistons thr are forged JE pistons and run about $80 to $100 each and they are brand new the dish i dont think will give it low enough compression to turbo the engine maybe i can work the cobustion chambers in the heads to get it where I can turbo it

If that motor is really 450HP, then I wouldnt really go straight for the turbo. I am putting 240hp into my fiero, and thats about 2.5 times more than the fiero is designed for. 450HP is going to create alot of strain on just about everything in your car, besides turbos can go on later.

Wow! makes me almost want to build another even fire!
seeing as the evenfire 90dgree v6 chevy is basically a tweaked over buick231 v6 even fire, that should be easy to get that kind of hp. sad to see they still haven;t addressed the head flow issues after all these years, but you can get a big improvement with some good porting and cleaning up, especially in the valve bowl area. back in the early 80's, one of the speed magazines actually had a 350 head cut down and re-welded in order to get the better flow on the 3.8. it too is just a 350 minus cyl 2 and 5.

if you haven;t yet, get that crank carefully inspected. xray and magna fluxed. they seem to like to split the crank at the journal offset. I learned that lesson the hard way.
Good luck with this, should be a nasty beast when you're done!

the crank is an odd fire racing crank and is forged steel the heads are aluminum racing heads $2000 castings and have about $3000 in port work and $1200 in tietain valves but i bought it all used form a friend for get this $1500 oh ya the bowtie HD block is another $1500 and the conecting rod are carrillo rods and cost over $100 each but with a stock block and stock heads you could make 350 HP but you need to use a newer 4.3 due to the heads flow better

Ahh ok, wasn;t sure on the crank from the pics. the odd fire is much stronger than the even fire crank.
I'll shutup now and watch with the required drooling.....

good luck with it!

the engine might be a bit wild for street use but i will try it maybee with holeys pro 4 injection i wonder how fast the car would be going if i could get the engine to turn the rpm's it is made for 8 to 9 thousand the fiero would be of the ground i think LOL

Well it is time to get working on this part of the project I will be calling TOTAL SEAL rings on monday to get piston rings and I will order up the racing bearings that I need the crank need to have special bearings due to larger radius on the jurnals but as soon as i get that stuff i can clean it up and start puting it together not sure about get a turbo yet that might just be to much over the top I think I could get over 600 HP easy with the turbo but do I need that type of power

Turbo is orderd and i have a set of piston rings coming from TOTAL SEAL at the price of $315 the high price is partly due to the ring thickness .043 first and second and a oil ring 3mm and they are a gapless ring but i feel a must with a turbo i will run the turbo at 8 pound on the street and turn it up when i put racing gas in and am at a drag strip i will run about 20 pounds of boost i think that should put me over 600HP

According to my turbo estimator (and I'm guessing on some of your specs.) A 4.8 liter engine running 9:1, able to run 8000 RPM and 20 PSI boost, at sea level, should run about 802 hp and 526 ft/lb. with no intercooler.
Using 9 PSI boost (and the same engine specs) you go to 547 hp and 359 ft/lbs.

Again this is guess-timated by what you've written so far.

One thing we all should remember about over-rev-in engines in our cars, Big Daddy Don lost some of his foot due to a flywheel-clutch flying apart at high RPM. Do you know where the Shrapnel will go, I would say in a bad area.
