That's a neat idea. Unfortunately, there's this "impact beam" thing in the way...
But I'm seriously considering a center-exit exhaust. Maybe one of you Photochop wizards can move the license plate up a couple inches and stick a pair of glass-packs in the middle?

Im planning on ditching the plate, putting it in the backwindow or something IOWA'N like that and having the exhaust come out of there. Ill have it come off the 3800 exhaust manifold directly behind it, and right into a dual tipped chrome muffler.
Hmmm... looks interesting. Although, I was thinking of having the mufflers closer to the ground, like the muffler is now.
Anyway, I did some more work on the trunk today. The fiberglass seems to be fully cured. I was able to stand in the trunk without falling through. So I think it's good to go.
Now it's time to clean up the trunk carpet and re-install it. Before doing that, I decided to install some firewall insulation material. In addition to acting as heat insulation, it also acts as a sound absorber. Let me tell you, with no carpet or insulation, that trunk resonates like a drum. A couple photos:
While I was at it, I also painted some POR15 on all the seams in the metal... to help prevent rust.
The trunk carpet was really grungy. With the help of some Simple Green and a pressure washer, I was able to get it looking halfway decent. I just have to wait for it to dry...

that looks pretty neat. Personally i would go with exiting through the impact beam and rear blinkers...but it's not my car and it is your safety at risk

Crap, the exhaust coming out of the license plate wont work, along with the reflector holes. The same support plate runs behind it. Im not willing to cut through or mess with this BUT. One could make a thick metal box the exhaust could go through and weld it between the plates so it stil has support. I just dont feel comfortable messing with it. BEsides, i scored a newer grand am exhaust i like!

I really like you air diffuser. I have always wanted to do something like it. When you laid the fiberglass piece in did you rivet to the rest of the rear facia or did you glass it in? If you glassed it in how did you account for the flexibility difference between them
Great job Keith

hehe yeah true..it just looks heavy with all the wood and glass, the glass bottem trunk prolly weighs more than what you cut out also....so now is that 100lb weight limit in a fiero's trunk acually apply to yours? lol

I would find that hard to believe. The fiberglass in those parts is less than 1/8" thick. In the big flat areas of the diffuser, it's only 1/16" thick. In contrast, the original urethane plastic is about 3/16" thick.

I'm just playing with photoshop. Its not the best, but....I think this would look a lot better if i had used rectangular tips, but IMO it would look sweet with the exhaust exiting in the same area.
