I can't believe I'm asking this, but how in the heck do you get the window crank thingy off? I want to remove my interior door panels to replace the carpet and mess with the dew wips/alignment/tracks of the windows so they do scratch. BUT I CANT GET THE DARN WINDOW CRANK HANDLE THINGY OFF!@#$@

Okay haha so someone clue me in please because reefing on this and prying it up a little looking behind it with a flashlight just isn't helping.

There is a retaining ring that holds the crank on. Take a straight piece of coat hanger and then right on the end make a hook. Reach in behind the crank and catch the end of the hook on the ring and then pull it off. Sounds pretty easy but you'll need to practice a bit.

Take a look on this site. It has a picture of the clip F1Fan is talking about. It just slide into the back side of the handle and locks it on the shaft.

http://www.crestnetsales.com/restore/gmhandles.htm

To reinstall you just pop the clip back on the handle and push the handle back on and your done.

Push in on the door panel next to the crank and you can usually see it.

Came across this thread while looking for the Torx bit size for the screws that hold the outer door panel on. (still looking)

I found the fastest & easiest way to remove these clips is simply with a shop rag.

Just work the rag between the crank & the door panel then move the rag from side to side around the shaft. The rag will catch on the end of the clip and pop it off.

I'll post pics

Be careful...those clips will fly a long way if you aren't watching.lol.
I've lost one before when I popped it off...and it zipped right into a different plane of reality and disappeared.lol.

use this and the clip should not fly. It also takes like half a second to remove the clip. Should be available at most auto parts stores.
