I read Zimmers post and must have missed something as I didn't see any reason he was booted. Proof again how this system is flawed. Clearly Zimmer should have had enough positives from his good postings but folks don't give those as easily. They are fast to get upset and toss a reddy in. Rick
I'm just curious. I noticed a lot of people have those "RATE ME" bars under their names. I think I've been here for a few years, since 2002 but I was actually on as an older user (but changed e-mail addresses). Why don't I have one under my own name? Do I want one? or is that something you get if you get in trouble? Heheh...
Sorry to hijack the thread, but I guess this thread will eventually die anyway... so...
These are the comments that likely got Zimmer banned...

Its amazing archie is able to get any work done with the amount of members that are swinging from his sack, how is there so much room? How can all of you guys swing at once? Maybe he should sell a "nut swinger" modified set up, so other messageboards can adapt.

Hahahah!!! That's hilarious.
It reminds me of this company outing we had last Friday at the beach. We had to wear this "get-up" which basically had a coconut in a sack. It would hang between our legs and we'd have to hit a soccer ball with the coconut around a set of cones through the sand. The first person to get their soccer ball to the other side won.
The event was clearly not approved by HR, but it was already planned by the "Company Outing Company" so they went with it.
Makes for great pictures of the day for the company Intranet though!!!
That whole thread was a bash on all sides. Why should he be expected to behave differently than people with hundreds or even thousands more posts than him?
Because he's new he has to be nicey-nice while pages of crap are being thrown around? If you look at this thread from an outside or relatively new point of view, it appears totally un-moderated and seemingly acceptable. If people with 1000's of posts have gotten by in this manner, surely it is the norm?
Not defending what he said, but out of all the BS that was being whipped around surely he didn't deserve a ban and shouldn't be held to higher standards. His statements matched the context of that thread and the statements made by others in it. A warning would have been sufficient, and many of the people in that thread could probably have used one. There was no indication what he was doing was unacceptable until the system banned him. He could have been a valuable member, and was sharing with us his Zimmer project but got thrown away by the ratings system.
Pretty much everyone in that thread needed to cool down, it had gotten horribly out of hand and it takes more than one person for that to happen.
Do these things happen when everyone meets in person?

Not to beat this dead horse too much but Zimmer has been around for over a year, he is not all that new. He was taken out by collateral damage. The new guy that started all this survived the red bar and is still posting.

Weird, when I read zimmers quote about the nut sack or whatever I thought he was supporting Archie? My interpretation was he was wondering how he got any work done with all the people calling him and bothering him for "free" support or just to BS. I dont know anyone involved I was just suprised that he was banned. The comment was pretty funny no matter what it meant.

Just like the rating system, I don't believe there are 14911 active members on this site. I don't think the members that are banned, are removed from the members list.

You average 10% of total sign-ups who come in from time to time if that and 30% lurkers maybe. The rest are folks who joined up to see about there purpose and then leave. I guarantee over 50% were people who were looking for engine help, how much there worth or trying to sell.
Then you have a 1% or higher for banned people to come back { old name still on the books} and on top of that you have many folks with two names from work and home who red mark multiple times to try and get folks banned. They get there friends to join just for this as I know for a fact.
So logically you have no more than 500 active members at best and 100 at best that post regularly. You have about 30 who post everyday I bet. If 14,000 people were active, we would be in trouble and you would have such a horrible load time it wouldn't be funny. "Just my opinion" . Rick

I agree with your logic, but I think the number of lurkers is higher. I bet for every active member there are 10 lurkers. And I think there are probably over 100 people that post every day.
Nonetheless, it's still a shame we won't see the completion of the Zimmer.
Yes it is a shame. I ren across this post and I have never seen, nor knew there was a Zimmer kit. I don't know why this ratings thing has to continue here. It seems like alot of people know each other on here and just want to talk to themselves. I don't know why there is a way to get someone banned or whatever. I mean this isn't gradeschool we're all adults here right ? If someone says something someone doesn't agree with then get over it. Haha.

Well, you had no way of knowing, but a couple of years ago, a group of guys joined this forum and they were real rough around the edges and they took particular delight in starting trouble with Archie. They were subesquently banned and they were so distraught over being banned that they started their own Anti-forum, which to this day dedicates a large amount of energy hating on Archie.
Periodically, they re-join this forum under fake names and start trouble, just for fun I guess. You are right, if everyone acted as adults the rating system wouldn't be needed. But these trouble makers act like they are a bunch of 12 year olds.
So your first post questioning Archie's kit was viewed very suspiciouly by many. Things got out of hand and the biggest loss was that Zimmer got banned. Even though he made some statements which were insulting to Archie's customer's, (including me) I really wanted to see the Zimmer restoration.

Man you're really a laid back guy. I really like talking with you. In comparison, if everyone took the tact you do in your communication skills then this forum would be alot better in my opinion. Archie took another jab at me tonight while I was trying to help another V8 swap guy about some axles. What's the guy's problem ?
Anyway like I said it is a shame because of a few people there is a rating and banning button. So there was no rating system before those people or has it always been here ? That makes sense now with all the "what is your name, etc etc" business when I joined and made my first post (of all things) Archie related. I wish everyone could go back and change my rating since I am really trying to help here. Oh well I hope I make it ha ha. I probably won't join again if I don't.

The rating system came in around the same time as these trouble makers and they were it's first victims. Yes, most people were convinced you were not who you say you are. It's seems pretty apparent that you are a real person. If you post nice, some people might change their vote. But you have a big spot of green already, so you have a good chance to stay around.

Hrrm...different. Definitely would have to do a double take trying to figure out what car it was at that point without seeing the interior...really nice woodgrain inlay plates. Any idea how those were done?
