Hi folks:
I am tring to set up my 86 notchback for a NOS fogger nitrous setup. The engine is a 355 small block chevy with 10 to 1 compression with TRW forged flat top pistons. Cam is Summit (crane) hyd 234/244 @ .050,.488/.510 lift. I have iron vortec heads off a 98 5.7 truck. Induction is mighty demon 650 cfm on a world products high rise huricane manifold. Ignition is mallory Hyfire 6 with mallory coil fired by accel HEI distrubtor. I have driven 800 miles on stock ( for '98 vortec ) Bosch plat. HR8DFX plugs with good looking color (on the plugs). NOS and others recomend NOT to use extended reach plugs with nitrous because the ground electrode can glow and cause preignition. I tried NGK BR6EF (stock # 3177) plugs but they fouled quite quickly. I tried to buy NGK plugs one heat range hotter but they do not make them. DOES ANYONE HAVE EXPENIENCE (OR KNOW WHERE ICAN GET INFO.) WITH NITROUS AND VORTEC HEADS? Thanks.

Go to this website. These spark plugs are the best for NOS set ups. I use them in my drag car with a blower and NOS. Just call them with your application and what you are using them for. Make sure you tell them that you are using them in a engine with NOS. These have never fouled out for me. Here is the link.

Actually, you need to run colder plugs for nitrous. Also plugs with a shorter ground strap. I can't remember the heat range you are supposed to go down per hp shot but I think unless you are running a ton of shot you can go down 1 or 2 heat ranges and be fine. Also reduce the gap to .035" or less depending on what you're original setting was. I'm very close at putting nitrous on my small block too. Probably only a 75 or 100 shot max.

here are nitrous plugs from ZEX - http://www.compperformanceg...gory_Code=SPARKPLUGS

I forgot to add in my orginal post that my fogger system is jetted for 100 hp shot, at least to start. Also, I called the NOS tech line some time ago and asked about plug choice and they said for 100hp I could run the stock extended reach (projected tip) plugs. Because of all I have read bad about the ground electrode on these glowing and causing preignition, and because I would like to go to 150 or more later, I bought the NGK plugs mentioned. They promply fouled out the first or second time I started it. So for now I switched back to stock bosch platinums. I recently called the Summit help line and they recomended the same NGK plugs I already tried. I have about 3 hours in search mode on the internet tring to find a plug that will work. After all, its a 355 small block chevy!!!! Somone out there must be running vortec heads with nitrous(?!!) I am tempted to try the new plugs craigsfiero2007 recomended. Anyone reading this have anymore ideas?

I really don't have any suggestions for you, only you can't run platinum plugs with nitrous. From what I've read, platinum is great for electricity but horrible for getting rid of the heat which will give you the same problem as a long ground strap plug. I didn't think it would be that hard to find plugs in the right heat setting and length. After all, it is 2007. Hmmmm...hopefully it won't be this hard when I put spray on mine.

I went with ZEX sparkplugs. They are designed for souped up engines with nitrous. So far I have driven the car with them about 10 miles without using the nitrous so I do not know if they will work ok or not. I am waiting for my Mallory hifire 6 box to come back from repairs. If the weather holds for the next week I will test fire the nitrous. The weather in northern NY so far this month has been abnormaly warm. We can have snow on the ground that stays in October! Today it was 73 and sunny! Last week it was 80 for two days. I will take it.If I have anything new to report I will post. Bill.
