This is what my driver side dash looks like...

I know I could order the dash pad caps from the fiero store...or get them on Ebay...but I think they will look stupid. Plus I dont want to pay almost 100 bucks after shipping and duty.
I could also just buy an entire dash panel off someone parting out a car...but finding one has been impossible

Anybody know of a good way to fix this? (a fairly cheap one )

Vinyl repair kit? Is there one that will match the color of my dash?

Any other ideas are appreciated!!

Every Fiero I have ever seen that wasn't taken care of a lot has the same thing on the corners of the dash. The 1984 Pontiac Fiero I just bought as a parts car has the same thing but it looks like the previous owner, has used Bondo, or something similar to fix it. It looks tacky.

It's repairable - but it's a lot of work and expensive to do.

Here's how I do it; it works well and looks 95% when it's done. First, trim the loose vinyl and crumbling foam from the corner. Next, form a mold around the corner using masking tape and squirt some Gorilla Glue in there. It'll fill the mold as it foams up; let it cure then use a rasp or coarse sandpaper to shape the cured foam into the correct shape.

Next step is to use a vinyl patch kit - a good one, with the heating iron. Mix up the right color and use the vinyl repair to cover your foamed in corner. Apply the closest grain paper and iron it until it sets. Go over it a few times; color and texture aren't too critical, but the shape needs to be right and all the foam must be covered.

Final step: repaint that section of the dash. You can get the correct paint at your local auto body supply store; a little pricey, but that's what it costs. A fresh coat of paint using a low-pressure spray over the repair and the rest of that colored portion of the dash makes it look like new again. Plan on the paint costing around $75. Get your friendly local body shop to shoot the paint for you if you can.

When you're all done it'll look great - if you get down there and study the repaired corner you'll be able to see that it's not quite factory. But when you're sitting in the driver's seat you won't be able to tell.

It's not a quick and easy repair, but it works well - and these days when good unbroken Fiero dashboards are almost impossible to find, it's a good technique to learn.

Or if you don't want to do it yourself, ask at some car lots. There are guys that travel around to lots and do the repairs for dealers.

You could ask what the guys charge and get in touch with one of them.

They do basically what is explained above.
