does anyone know if i can get brushes for the motors(84-86) ? i took mine apart and what happened was the carbon brushes broke off of the copper leads.... so if i could get the brushes alone that would be good, but my whole thermal and limit switch assembly looks a little run down anyway so if i have to buy the whole assembly thats fine too... i just dont know where to get them, i looked on rodney dickmans site and it doesnt look like he has anything, hes got the gears but no brushes!

Saw this posted by Ed, from the Fiero Factory on the Fiero tech net:
quote
Neil and all, we have found out that at least the 91-93 Cadillac power antenna brush assemblies are virtually identical to those of the 84-86 Fiero headlight motors.
Even the relay connector is the same except for the following:
Instead of a separate blue "down" wire, the Cadillac has a white wire going to the relay connection. If the Cadillac white wire is unpinned from the relay connection, and the Fiero blue wire connection spliced to it, the brush assembly will work perfectly in the Fiero motors.
The brushes seldom show wear as the failure point of the Cadillac antenna's are the cable drives. And, they are much newer then the Fiero brushes.
Would suspect that most GM antenna motors in that year frame are the same, but have not checked with any dealers.
Hope this helps.

Looks like it may be a solution.

hmm... i think i have to start a hunt for some antenna motors, i was thinking of just cutting and sanding down a pair of brushes from an old router i had and gluing those on, but im glad to see that there is such thing as conductive glue. i'll let you guys know if the brush cut-down works (unfortunately i wont be home for another week, but i'll post the results when as soon as i get back)
Sounds like your a capable person, you could just upgrade to the 88Fiero/Firebird motors and module and be done with it and all the relays. If the 84 has the same headlight switch as all the other years should not be a problem. Did my 85 for $20. ..
You just use the light switch, some power feeds and some of the existing wiring. Put it together and your done.... I know the 84 lights where wired a little different but should not be that bad at all.

i just may do that swap dodgerunner, after all i hear the 86 motors will just die in a year anyway, might as well just do it right. It doesnt look like anything too hard in your post, and im assuming you just throw out the old iso relay/ headlight relay?
looks to me like its just a big colorful matching game (good thing i'm not colorblind)
thanks again, i think i'm gonna try the brushes just out of curiosity and start looking around for some firebird lights.. its 87-92 correct?
Yes think those are the right years. I know they started in 88 for sure. Yes it was really a lot easier then I even expected. I had rebuilt both of my motors and they lasted about 6 months and started acting up so decided that was enough.
