I made an alternator bracket a couple of years ago to improve apon the Archies bracket that came with my kit. Being in the business of making light wieght strong parts for aerospace at the time, things tend to look very aircraft.

Billet 6061-T6, this part with fasteners is less then a pound.

Very strong. light wieght T-beam structure with large fillet radius at root.

The base bolts into the unused engine mount patern for a very rigid base.

The stock A/C compressor for the 88 is fixed in position by the 2 bolts in front and one in back to keep the pulleys aligned and not move around as the car goes through large transitions.

With the alternator installed and the stock A/C plumbing attached you can see hoses and wiring can be neatly taken care of.

The belt tension is taken up by the stainless rod end adjustment link.

I milled 2 extra sets if anybody is interested in having some custom parts for $475 each.

Thanks

BEAUTIFUL WORK! I love the design. And at $425, it not only looks like an aircraft part - it costs like one, too.

Hi Buddy

We met back at Wheatfeast in Topeka. I think you had a 327 in a red notch back.

I know what you mean. You can make your own with right & left hand thread rodends and some thick wall tube.

Thanks,

Yep, real world economics, if you had to pay my bills, you would charge what I charge.

Thanks for the kind words though.

That alternator mount is quite slick! I really like it when people veer from the mainstream and do things differently.

Can you get a full sized spark plug in the cylinder above the alternater and then get a socket on it?
Very nice work!

Nice machine work. Obviously it's too pricey for the Fiero community.

That's similar to the Cadillac Northstar alternator & A/C aomp configuration.
Considered switching over to a serpentine belt with spring loaded tensioner?

Don't have much wrap on the A/C comp, but it shouldn't be running at high RPM anyway.
Have you secured the third mounting ear on the compressor?

That bracket looks great!! If I where building a V-8 for my Fiero, I would buy one from you. But, it is giving me ideas for my 3800 S/C engine.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

I would have to agree it does not have a lot of wrap around the compresser, no less then Archies original piece. There is room for an idler wheel between the damper and A/C pully that could add more wrap but it would be tuff on the V-belt.

The spark plugs are angled on those heads and can be remove easly, on a strait plug head you would have to remove the unused 3rd mount ear on the compessor and adjust the alternater further away from the head.

When I made them, and those of you on the forum that are CNC machinists know this, after all that set up, why not make 3.

Everybody hates the rams horns, but they fit real well and these guys are 2 1/2" vette units that I port matched and smoothed out. There are some stainless units out that look better but you have to admit these will last forever. I've seen so so many shorty headers rot out in the center of the collector between the tubes.
