Now, Many members asked 1 week ago when I put up a WTB: Holley Scoop. The Holley Scoops are much more durable, stronger, and look better. ( No they do not look the same.) Because after 6 months the Fiero Store Replica one is totaled scratched, chipped, that is what I am gathering from members here. The Holley Scoop is much more durable.

Good thing I build prototypes of consumer products for a living. If need be I can rechrome the letters with this awesome chrome system I have. I could also make a silicone mold of it and cast a completley new scoop from a more durable and uv resistant urethane plastic. So don't fret if the quality sucks I can fix it or make it better. The chrome on there now is just a vaccu metalization. Vaccu-metalizing is not very durable to begin with. I think I might pull mine off tomorrow and put a few thick coats of PPG deltron over the chrome. That will protect it better than the top coat they put on it initially. Thanks for the heads up.
I dunno what your problem is, but I've had my scoop on for almost a year and the only place where chrome is gone is on the part where is got backed in to with a Bonnie(ville).

Dougie, Are you tellin' me that the previous owner put that scoop on the outside, but on the inside, the intake isn't even connected to it?
HAHAHAHA!!! Now THAT'S nice.
Yeah thats right...not to diss the Fiero store scoop (or the previous owner...if you're reading this, sorry.), i mean, if you have a stock intake, it cant hurt anything. a little more air will get into the intake...and it will look cool too. But the way mine is set up is dumb. The filter sits right on the engine compartment insulation which is full of crap and dirt and when it lets go of the dirt and crap it goesinto the filter. I noticed this because my filter was gummed up. I wish I had a pic of my TB. It was completley gummed up with a thick layer of brown sludge from taking in moisture, dirt and old insulation. I can only imagine what im going to find when i take the plenum and all that off to clean it while its locked up in the stable this winter.
[OUOTE]Posted my GTQuick:At least cooler air is getting in there. [/QUOTE]
In my case, whatever cool air is getting in is canceled out by the boiling hot air trapped in the engine compartment. Im sure this short tube setup doesnt do anything good.
oh and p.s - The scoop I have has been on the car 2 years and still looks new. Maybe the ones missing the silver paint were part of a bad batch? ------------------ Dougie Murder 85 Fiero GT Romeoliquorstore.com Myspace

Pulled my scoop today and put two thick coats of PPG Concept clear. That stuff flows out soooo glassy smooth I love it. Put it back on before I drove home from work. Looks great and my vaccu-metalized chrome won't be going anywhere.

As for the product quality - The first one I installed, the chrome cracked after a few months. The good people at the FS sent me a new one free of charge and never asked for the old scoop (so I have one for the winter and one for summer ) So I give them A+ in C.S

When I got mine, I really didn't like the "flashy" appearance of the fake chrome. I found a rattle can of semi-gloss black paint, and sprayed the whole scoop. You can still make out the "FIERO" on the scoop, but, IMO being subtle comes across as being intended more for go than for show. Haven't noticed any performance gain, but coupled with Rodney's cold air intake system, it sure produces an "interesting" sound behind your left ear when you get on it .

Best one I saw, the guy took a belt sander to it and removed the outer ribs and the lettering then sanded with finer sandpaper and painted it body color. it looks way better.
Sorry to raise this topic from the dead, I just bought a GT that has that scoop on it, and I've gotta be honest, I really don't like it. I thought it was stock, I guess I was wrong, is the stock one just a grille that goes voer the hole, with no scoop?

BUMP So, I've read a bunch of the thread, but not all of it (my appologies). Someone said that the intake is well designed. Does that include the '84 Duke? (For that matter are they the same?) My intake is taken out currently because the car's on jacks for restoration. The piece looks like like it creates super-restriction. It's a big loopy box which I heard someone say is merely for reducing noice (vacuum noise). I was thinking of just running a straight stainless or aluminum pipe from the intake to the air cleaner for better flow. What about the intake is well done? Does the loopy box actually do something good?

as far as cold air intakes go, West coast fiero makes the only one I would say is worth the money or effective as far as I have seen. It is custom made to go into the side tubing right behind the side vent preventing rain and hot air to get into the filter.

There's a article somewhere out there in Fieroland (one of the club sites, I think), where they dyno'd a stock V6 with the stock air intake, and again with the air intake disconnected (air straight into the throttle body), and it made no difference. The article concluded that the stock air intake is well designed.
